Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. KayLa N. Allen.
Hi Dr. Allen, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in a single-parent home and I was raised by my mother (a strong black woman). I learned about humble living, kindness, the possibilities for growth in life, and God, but I also experienced struggles.
As I grew older, I questioned my identity as a “mixed” girl/woman without that connection to the other side of my family. I longed for a different kind of love and understanding that I was not able to attain.
I knew that I wanted something better for my life, but I didn’t know how to move forward without financial stability or access to resources that would benefit my educational journey.
In young adulthood, I navigated through almost 7 years of domestic violence and abuse. As I looked for love, I found more and more pain. Little did I know, that season of life became a major part of my personal evolution.
As I gained my mental strength and aimed for my own successes, I learned how to make the most of my life. I believe that God only gives his toughest battles to his strongest warriors…here I am a survivor turned thriving warrior.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My journey has been not been easy in any sense of the word. Some of my struggles were overcoming domestic violence, finding my voice, depression, anxiety, financial struggles, poor coping mechanisms, trying to understand my multiracial identity, being myself in a world that can often try to put me in a box, earning respect as a minority woman, and self-doubt. Even with all that I have faced and had to overcome, I have learned that we all are internally equipped with what we need to succeed. The key to leading in life is being yourself and evolving over and over again, for the better.
As you know, we’re big fans of your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Relatabilty is one of most important characteristics that I carry with me in business and practice. Since relatability is a part of the work that I do, there are greater successes, deeper empathetic connections, and greater respect in how I carry out my business.
