Rising Stars: Meet Joshua Jenkins

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshua Jenkins.

Hi Joshua, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started writing music at the age of 15. I was looking at 106&park when rapper “THE GAME” premiered his video “DREAM”. Shortly after I began writing and never looked back. I have an old soul. I love musicians like Stevie wonder, Smokey Robinson, stylistics, rose Royce, & plenty more. I’ve been an independent artist for 16 yrs. I plan to become well known with my music and also get into the film industry. My music has much meaning. I don’t talk about killing, drugs, or any other NON important substance. I have an upcoming EP called 3RD WARD. Just a project telling where I’m from and my story.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has never been a smooth road. Being independent I’ve invested thousands of dollars over time. I haven’t had too much support as well. The struggle is always financial with artists. It’s not easy.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
With me being a HIP HOP artist most people would think I’m the ordinary typical rapper, but WRONG! That’s what separates me. My music has meaning and I make positive music that people definitely relate too.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
NEVER GIVE UP. Also, know what exactly you want out of music. Understand your vision. Never be lazy to learn how to do things yourself because most of the time nobody will do it for you. Do your research and learn the business. Especially the financial part.
