Today we’d like to introduce you to Maggie Marroquin.
Hi Maggie, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I spent about 8 years in Operational Accounting and was feeling unfilled in my role. I wanted the opportunity to have an impact directly in people’s lives. My favorite recruiter who had helped in my previous career searches encouraged me to give recruiting a try. I left my role as an Accounts Receivable Manager and now, 9 years later, I am the Director of Accounting and Finance recruiting and I have loved every moment.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Nothing worth achieving comes without its challenges. Recruiting has been the most fulfilling and challenging role I have encountered and I absolutely love this job. With the ever-changing economic landscape, the hurdles created by the pandemic and the shortage of qualified candidates in specific industries, meeting (preferably exceeding) Client expectations is a constant challenge.
One challenge that we address on a daily basis is the Candidates desire for remote versus the Client’s desire for having employees return to an in-office working model. Candidates are prioritizing work/life balance as they have enjoyed the ability to eliminate their daily commute and respond in real-time to family demands. Clients have to negotiate this new working model carefully or risk losing talent. We have seen a rise in hybrid and flex work schedules to bridge the gap between remote work and in-office requirements. Another wrinkle in the remote vs in-office work model is the “new” business attire parameters. Many of us have adopted the “business on top (dress shirts/polos), party on the bottom (pajamas/sweats)” style of office attire. People of creatures of habit and comfort, reverting to a pre-pandemic work style will have to be carefully managed.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about System One?
System One is one of the largest integrated services and workforce solutions firms in the U.S. with more than 9,000 employees and consultants working for clients every day and from more than 50 locations throughout the US. I specifically focus on placing entry level to executive level Accounting, Finance, HR, Administration and Operation professionals on a contract, contract-to-hire and direct hire basis.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
In my career, I have that open/clear communication has been critical to my development and success. When interfacing with my Clients being able to accurately assess their needs and dialoguing these needs back to them allows me to better meet the true requirements of a role.
At the same time, having quality communication with my Candidates helps me to find the right opportunities for them. Changing roles can be a stressful time in a Candidates life and I have found that keeping them updated and establishing clear expectations makes a stressful situation much more tolerable.
