Hidden Gems: Meet Rebeca and Nicole Mejia of R+Brie Charcuterie

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebeca and Nicole Mejia.

Hi Rebeca and Nicole, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
My sister and I have always had the dream of starting a business together. We are originally from Honduras and if you know hispanics you know food and entertainment are LIFE. I (Rebeca) started creating boards for friends and family and quickly got my sister (Nicole) hooked. I asked her if she wanted to do this with me and she jumped. I have to admit both she and I did not know everything that goes into this business but we are so glad to do this together. We laugh, cry, fight, make-up and eat cheese while at it( pun-intended!) We started thinking this was going to be just a hobby for us and never would we imagine what it is now. Customers have trusted us for all their special occasions. Starting from appreciation fun-size boxes to our grazing tables to Corporate Private Charcuterie Classes.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think I speak for all small business owners when I say I had no idea EVERYTHING that goes into owning a business. You are everything (CEO, CFO, Supply Chain, Purchasing, Social Media Manager, Cleaning Crew, etc) We did not get everything right at first but we have learned so much along the way. I would say our biggest hurdles have been work-life balance and saying no to our customers. We are people pleasers and it has been so hard to say no at times because there is just not enough time in the day to be able to do everything.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about R+Brie Charcuterie?
R+Brie represents so much more than a cheese and charcuterie business. It represents sisterhood, women, moms, Hispanics and most importantly LOVE and Appreciation for our customers. We specialize in events from customized charcuterie cones to grazing tables or islands. We love going that extra mile to make those special events you invite us to be part of even more special.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Success for us is making our customers feel special, bringing a smile to their face. Anyone in the business can tell you how much time goes into preparing each item we make. I can bet you most don’t do it for money but because we enjoy some other part of it. For us is getting those messages saying how thankful they are and how perfect the board was for them. We always ask regardless of what is being ordered any preference or dislike of any meat/cheese and want to know if you are celebrating something special. We want to make sure the item you order from us is something you will enjoy and it is customized for you. We also will customize anything you ask us for. We have done Disney themed cones up to a Safari themed Grazing Island.
