Today we’d like to introduce you to Brian Smith.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My story starts in Houston Texas (born & raised).
I graduated from Prairie View A&M University (in 2005) with a degree in Electrical Engineering.
Attending Prairie View A&M University was a wonderful experience for me.
Not only did I acquire immense technical knowledge, but I was also able to develop tremendous people & time management skills.
After graduation, I went on to work in the field of Industrial Construction for over ten years!
My career in Industrial Construction was an exciting journey & I got to work with some really great people.
We were building massive chemical & power plants which included a lot of travel.
I have always had an entrepreneurial spirit & my career in Industrial Construction / Engineering background ultimately led me to starting my own Home Inspection Firm (Smith Group Property Inspections) in 2018.
I would not be where I am today without the love and support of my family – wife Rhonda, our two children (Brian & Buchanan), my mother, & many other supportive family members.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My path has not been exactly smooth & I have certainly had my share of obstacles/challenges.
Starting my business was initially a “nights & weekends” pursuit because I had a full-time day job to support my family.
One of the main challenges was the multi-tasking involved with working two full time jobs & trying to maintain a healthy work/family balance.
I am a man of faith (God is 1rst in our family) & I would try to always take off work on Sundays for family time.
Another challenge was the Global Pandemic (COVID-19).
The COVID -19 pandemic created many challenges for how I normally market my business.
There were fewer face to face opportunities to interact with people which caused me to get more active on Social Media to promote my business.
As you know, we’re big fans of Smith Group Property Inspections. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
My business is a service based business that offers property inspections.
In a normal real estate transaction; the buyer submits an offer to purchase a property & then the buyer has the property inspected once their offer is accepted.
This is where my company enters the transaction.
My company specializes in residential construction (& we also offer commercial inspections).

The things that truly make me happy are spending time with my family & my faith.
