Meet Jada Bass

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jada Bass.

Hi Jada, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
When I moved to Texas for school I did so with no family and friends. So a fresh start and in my area in San Marcos. I couldn’t find a job for some time no matter how many places I applied to. Originally I bought my first nail kit to save money on doing my own nails because the salons around my campus were expensive. Since I had nothing but free time on my hands I just practiced on myself and my classmates would compliment my own nails and ask where I would get them done. Once I told them I did my own nails girls would ask me if I could do their nails and I would practice on them for free in my dorms to have them promote my work. Three years later I never anticipated that my business would grow as much as it has.

I’ve now added another service to my business doing lashes. Following COVID I was worried I was going to lose all my clients but fortunately, I am taking 3 times the amount of clients a week that I was before.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely has not been a smooth road. My biggest struggle and one that I struggle with still is time management. It’s so easy to get caught up in taking on more clients that I lose track of my main goals which is:

1. Doing well and finishing school.
2. Making a brand for my business beyond offering my services.

I have too often given up time studying for a test the following day to work because I am thinking short term not longterm. Keeping my passion for my business while working up to 3 jobs and being a full time college student has been trying. It’s hard to be passionate about anything when you don’t sleep and barely have time to yourself. This year has taught me as a workaholic to take a step back to think and breathe when I feel myself starting to get overwhelmed in my clients and school. Since taking less off my plate, my goals are more clear and I have more time to invest in diversifying my nail portfolio and take on opportunities to promote my business.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in nail art and lash extension services. I say nail art because I do many hand-painted designs that traditional salons aren’t able to do or charge an arm and a leg for. In my area, I am more known for doing nails because I can generally copycat any image or set my client has seen on social media that they want. I am most proud of my attention to detail and line work. Being a perfectionist is what sets me apart from other nail and lash technicians. I don’t see in bigger picture to overlook minor mistakes, rather I look deeply at each small section and have my nails be perfect from start to finish. It’s true in anything you do that rushing does not lead to the same quality compared to when you take your time and double back if necessary.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My clients have been the played the biggest role in my success. Word of mouth is how I’ve secured most of my clients and I always ask when I take a new client “how did you find out about me” and majority of the time they mention how I do their friend and my personal favorite is when they tell me they didn’t personally know the girl who told them but they saw her nails where she works at (as their server or cashier). My clients and friends repost and share my pics without me even asking them and that speaks to the relationships I’ve developed with them that they support me because they genuinely wish to.
