Hidden Gems: Meet Shanda Domango Brown of Domango Training

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shanda Domango Brown.

Hi Shanda, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
After losing my mom and dad to heart disease and cancer, I choose to fuse my love for dance, fitness, and healing into a format that was fun and approachable for the community. Out came DOMANGO TRAINING- a wellness company that reimagines healthy active living.

We offer integrative personal training, group fitness classes, and have since expanded to offer mommy and me training and healing movement sessions.

We are truly a community where people seeking support and accountability can feel included and have access to a holistic approach to fitness.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have been struggles as we began the company. It was a challenge exposing the community to a fitness format that wasn’t necessarily what they were used to seeing (just the gym or an aerobics class, etc.) We learned to meet our community where they are and expand our services to meet them exactly where they are.

Our largest struggle, due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, has been keeping the funding and financial backing that allowed us to provide our classes free to the community. The challenge provided us with the opportunity to turn a portion of our services virtual to be able to cover costs and allow the community to have access for free.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Domango Training is a wellness company. We use integrative fitness (physical, mental, and nutritional) to help our clients achieve they healthy lifestyle goals.

We are known for our dance fitness sessions. In our dance fitness sessions, we follow intentional/chakra based functional fitness and dance movement. Our most renowned class is our Hip Hop Cardio class.

We are most proud of our accessibility to the community. We are able to provide them with high quality fitness guidance, implementation, and resources they might not have access or awareness to otherwise.

What matters most to you? Why?
I’m a spiritual person so God and my relationship with God always comes first. Directly after that would be family. I find it an honor to be a mom and wife. I take those roles in my life seriously. I love being able to take care of my sons. Most importantly, I love being able to guide them down a path that is healthy not just physically but also mentally and emotionally.

Being a partner to my husband has been one of the most fulfilling parts of my growth as a person. Having someone to hold me accountable to achieve my dreams and challenge me to be great at every corner of life has been one of the things I never knew I needed.
