Rising Stars: Meet Alex Rosas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Rosas.

Hi Alex, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started out drawing flyers and making videos for bands in Houston in the mid-90s, as a teenager. After high school, I worked lots of restaurant jobs until I got my degree from The Art Institute. That landed me a 9-5 in the corporate world, which was fine for a while until I decided to freelance in 2011. So I’ve been building up my portfolio for about 10 years now.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Smooth road? Not at all! The easy road is not my style. I’ve paid lots of dues, including working for free sometimes, and investing lots of personal time to make a good impression on the people I work for. It all works out in the long run because hard work never goes unnoticed.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Lately I’ve been working with musicians who influenced me when I was younger and I’m really proud of that.

I build websites, graphics, logos, videos, etc. Most of my projects are for web and print but I still like to draw and sketch. My work is pretty eclectic.

I’m also currently working on an animated series that I co-created with a friend. I’d love to see it on tv one day and I think I just found the right people that can help me achieve that dream.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Go with gut-instincts and let the cards fall. Just like a poker game, hands are dealt and you bet on yourself to win or you fold and play another round.
