Daily Inspiration: Meet NaToya Danielle

Today we’d like to introduce you to NaToya Danielle.

Hi NaToya, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’m originally from Slidell, Louisiana. I have always been involved in the arts from a young age. I sang in choir in church, concert choir in school, dance team and even fashion shows. I moved to Houston, Texas after high school and fell into the music scene quickly. Working during the day doing security and going to the studio at night. One day my mom gave me a Greensheet and it had an article circled for a stage play audition. I got the part of a choir member but I fell in love with the talent of the lead actress. We performed at the Wortham Theater and I knew I wanted music AND acting in my life forever. I have since done several music videos, films, web series and stage plays. I’ve even voiced a character on a video game. I toured for 2 years as lead in the 1989 Dreams production of “Ain’t Always Been Saved” under the direction of Harold Jay Trotter. The same company gave me the opportunity to work as part of the production team on his most recent touring show. In January I will have the honor of directing for the first time.

My podcast “This Is Culture” will be back for its third season top of the new year. When I am not modeling for brands or working on a show, I am focusing on writing my first short film. I love being creative and living life. My personal motto is #NoBrakes Meaning, Keep Going. No matter what comes at me, no matter what obstacles come my way, no matter what it looks like. No matter how many no’s you get, how many wrong yes’s you get. Stay the path.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not a smooth road at all. I have had my shares of ups and downs. There were times where I felt like no one wanted what I had to offer. I dealt with insecurity because of my skin, my smile, my finances. I have felt like maybe I should just get a regular job, go to school and just remember the times or the what ifs. But every time I felt like giving up…someone has always remembered me, referred me, or most importantly, encouraged me. I have been blessed and favored.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
In acting, I am actually am known for knowing my lines and everyone else’s. I make it a point to know the whole story and script. I won an award in June from the Urban Arts Academy for “Artist Leadership”. I’m always willing to help my cast members. If we cant all tell the story properly, then what’s the point? I make it a point to be professional on all projects I am a part of. Every opportunity could lead to another. I am most proud of the fact that I am always in demand. I constantly get referred and or called back to work with those who know my brand is worth it. I love that am I blessed to work in my passion.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
My favorite book is “The Alchemist”. I’ve read it several times and each time I get a new message. I believe life experiences are the best lessons and guides. And music. Anyone that has ever worked with me on any job knows that I am going to listen to music all day and sing all day. Music is my poetry and keeps my mind flowing.
