Daily Inspiration: Meet Jacqueline “Jlovely” Jones

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacqueline “Jlovely” Jones.

Hi Jacqueline “Jlovely”, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
If we’re going to talk about where everything kind of all started, I guess I can go back to when I was about five. Every time we would get like the Sunday newspaper, I would be to look at the comics because that was the only piece I would want that my grandpa was willing to share with me, and I would read through the comics and draw exactly like how some of the characters looked so that was when I started really putting pencil down on paper. I always had an interest in the arts after that.

It would never be just one particular medium. I enjoyed all aspects for starters fashion, jewelry, photography, etc. All types of mixed media that just shines in the creative lifestyle. So when I do come out with a piece, it is not necessarily just paint. I like having a mixture of different media included in it as well most of my pieces have included butterflies and flowers for a 3-D feel. But, I’m still learning exactly what my type of style is so I can be able to fully incorporate being well-rounded each piece.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I’ve been told that a lot of different pieces that I have created does make a lot of people feel something which is one of the I’ve always wanted. I try to express myself fully with most pieces.

I struggle with my emotions a lot and have different personalities. In some of my work recently, you can see three faces completing one whole face if that makes sense lol… Growing up, it wasn’t always the easiest and you know just those moments of kind of just being down in the valley, do you know appeared more than I would think they should have. I’ve been homeless and stayed in a women’s shelter when I was younger, I’ve witnessed things that no kids should but yeah, it all gets poured into my creativity. Art is my therapy. I have fun being able to express those feelings. It means a lot because at one point, I didn’t know how to fully express myself and have people see the real me.

I think when you’re at a point of where you lose everything and all that you do have is maybe a pen and paper to write or draw or do whatever with it just to get that feeling out at that moment it means a lot. That’s why the world is always going need creative people. The world is always going to need an artist to be able to show the real human side of things.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As of right now, I specialize in painting, mostly acrylics and starting to experiment over to oils, watercolors, and gouache. Hmmm… known for? I’d say my work mostly gets recognized by applying a drip background and involving mixed media mostly a 3-D look to most pieces. I am still exploring what I like though so it’s an ever-changing “style”.

Honestly, I’m most proud of actually showing my work to the public and meeting all these creatives I never knew were around Houston. I have absolutely enjoyed rubbing elbows with the creative folk lol…

What sets me apart is that I admire everyone’s abilities and appreciate what I can learn from others in this field. I take it all in and don’t see other people as a competitor. That where I think the game gets messed up, everyone has something deep and meaningful to offer and they express it as such. I love it and learn from it.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Changing your mindset in your favor. What I mean by that is thinking highly of yourself especially when it comes to your craft. I can say first starting that I wasn’t sure if people would like it or want it in their homes or space.

But I had to say f*ck it, just like people will hate you while your alive and even after you die. It’s like your work, Art connects to certain people and other people it doesn’t. Your tribe who connects with you pieces will come. And f*ck the ones who don’t, they aren’t for you and the piece of yourself you put into each stroke on canvas is waiting for someone worthy of buying your piece.
