Rising Stars: Meet Marcela De la Paz

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marcela De la Paz.

Hi Marcela, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My name is marcela de la Paz, I have been a model and actress since 2011. I grew up in a orphanage pretty much raised myself and as a adult choosing to be an actress after so much rejection from my own family was hard. Being an Afro-Latina was hard. I wanted to be in Spanish soap operas so bad but I was too black for them and I wanted to be in the African American world but My accent was too strong! That’s why I created Miss Sabor Latina a pageant that focused on featuring the Afro Latina not just beauty but talent.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Being left in a country at such a young age with no one to take care of you is hard. I struggled a lot in my country and then coming to Americans and realizing you’re part of two cultures, that’s hard. You want everyone to treat you like you’re the same but reality is you’re not. Someone is different and that could be color or language barriers. That makes everything challenging.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We are working on a talk show currently it will be airing January 1st. We are also being Miss sabor latina back. Covid stopped and making small films to snow the talent of the Afro Latina community.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Simple, you want something? Go for it. No one else is going to make YOUR dreams come true but you!
