Today we’d like to introduce you to Davanelle Freeman.
Hi Davanelle, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started experimenting with organic skincare in my kitchen about 3 years ago. In 2019, I was released from the oil and gas industry after 8 years, which was a very difficult time for me: I struggled both emotionally and my skin physically showed it, so I decided that I had no choice but to re-evaluate my lifestyle. Little by little, I started making important changes: I stopped spending money on products I will never use or enjoy, I started exercising, eating skin-nourishing foods and, importantly, I began to look for skincare products that were free from harmful chemicals, skin irritants, and cheap fillers. As I was already a self-declared beauty junkie, I quickly became obsessed with trying natural and organic skincare lines! However, I soon realized that I couldn’t find any products that were organic, minimal, and sophisticated. I felt very strongly that I had the right to know and understand what I was putting onto my skin!
The results of my kitchen experiments really impressed me because others were gaining results from the experiment. I was convinced that the market was crying out for a brand that was, healthy and transparent. So I immediately called my best friend Glorea to tell her about the exciting news about the results I’ve gained and to help solve a problem with the meaning behind the brand, I was stuck on the “I” in the word Yimi (Y-our I-mage M-atters I- ) and she said instantly it stood for individually. Glorae has always been a part of the beauty industry growing up and enjoyed the result of making people look and feel beautiful. She has always been passionate about fashion and the way people present their image to the world when she was a little girl she remember thoughts of owning a beauty spa one day.
Our connection started in 2013 when we meet in college, our bond has been inseparable ever since and we knew at that very moment that one day we would own a beauty empire. The vision was clear, to develop a brand that was built on friendships, connections, experiences, open hearts, and consideration for others. Glorea (my best friend) then relocated to Texas from North Carolina where we joined forces and stood behind Yimi Skin (Your Image Matter Individually)and have successfully founded 3 additional companies under the brand.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In 2020, during covid-19, we were faced with adversity. We had to pivot to online sales with little experience. As we have all seen during those unpresidential times many closings and shutdowns have occurred. Most of our suppliers have shut down indefinitely due to a lack of funds to pay bills. We had to reinvent ourselves and how we did things, from marketing, networking to building brand awareness.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Yimi Skin is what you will call a specialty skincare line, a friendly high-quality skincare line that uses all-natural ingredients to produce incredible results. Because Your Image Matters Individually!, we use nature’s best ethically and sustainably ingredients source in the United States to formulate our products. We don’t believe in cutting costs by substituting natural ingredients with synthetic chemicals or artificial fragrances.
The first rule in beauty is to know that YOUR IMAGE MATTERS! You can own the best makeup in the world, but it won’t look its best unless your skin is healthy and nourished. We believe every person should feel confident in their skin. Our mission is to empower our people to be and feel beautiful while achieving evolutionary results with Yimi Skincare.
We are really excited about the release of our skincare planner to help our amazing customers, without doubt, the most interesting part of running an organic skincare company. We have just launched Yimi Skin Spa in Pearland, Texas (which is very cool!) and are currently working on plans to continue expanding our skincare range so that more and more people are able to enjoy the beauty of nature at its best.
