Rising Stars: Meet Alejandro Guerra

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alejandro Guerra.

Hi Alejandro, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started creating videos back in 2015 on an iPhone 7. I was a broke junior in high school so I used what I had access to. I was creating vlogs and YouTube content just for the fun of it but in that process, I found that I love filmmaking. It allows me to express my creativity and it’s something I can never get tired of learning about.

Right after high school, I started an internship at Studio 713 and right off the bat I was thrown into bigger budget video shoots. This showed a whole new side of the business I had never seen because I was used to working with entry-level gear so I was sold on my future career after the first day. After a couple of years of interning there and working temporary jobs, I started working with a real estate investment group being their media guy. Shooting videos, taking photos, recording podcasts, running the livestream, and constantly learning something new about real estate.

Once the pandemic hit, videos became in super high demand and I got hired at a few local churches to either help film pre-recordings for their livestreams or edit and piece them together. Outside of all that, I was doing video shoots for businesses or artists who wanted visuals for their social media under the brand name DasAlex.

Today I own a production business with my 2 friends Omar Aguilar and Paul Garza, called Creative Minds Productions and we do audio, video, and social media management. It’s been a crazy ride so far with many challenges and lessons and we’ve only been open since June. I’m very excited to see what’s to come in the new year

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I wish it was a smooth road but life doesn’t work like that sometimes. Learning and going down a path no one you know has gone down was definitely an early struggle. It was always a whole bunch of trial and error and a lot of Youtube tutorials. Another struggle would be always being displeased with the end result when I first started because in your head you see one thing, but the lack of knowledge or gear won’t let you achieve that look. It was always frustrating knowing I could create something better. Also just understanding the basics and rules of filmmaking. There’s lighting, camera angles, frame rates, aperture, ISO, shutter angle, composition and so much more.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I create videos and I don’t have a particular specialization. Show us a reference so we get an idea of what your vision and we create from there. I’m most proud of launching Creative Minds because it’s my 1st official business. What sets us apart from others is that we’re 3 individuals that collaborate with our strengths to capture all audio and video production needs.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
We saw a huge shift with the pandemic where video was needed by pretty much everyone since we had to go digital. I see more people jumping into videography and the technology of the cameras being insane.
