Life & Work with Rachel Brown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Brown.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was raised in Galveston, Texas, and I still reside on the beautiful island. I am a product of both private and public schools in Galveston. My mom, Margie, raised me and worked hard to provide everything she could for me. I also received support from family members who helped my parents, especially my loving Aunts, who taught me to be strong and work hard. They say it takes a village to raise a child, and I was blessed to have a fantastic village raise and guide me in the right direction.

I went to Cosmetology School and worked as a nail technician, esthetician, and certified laser hair removal specialist right out of high school. During my time as a nail technician, I had the opportunity to work with one of the most famous musicians as a private nail technician, all the while knowing my heart was not loving what I was doing. While in cosmetology school, I worked part-time at Trinity Episcopal School in early childhood. I knew then that working with young children was my true calling. I have worked in the education field for the past twenty-four years as an assistant, teacher, and director. Currently, I hold the position of Director of Admission at Trinity Episcopal School. I have a passion for working with children, advocating for them, and educating others on the importance of loving and nurturing children of all ages.

While working on my professional career, I also work on my personal goals. I have completed seven MS-150’s, numerous long-distance bike rides, and my weight loss of over 80 pounds. I am currently a student at the University of Houston Clear Lake, where I obtained a 4.0, am a member of The National Society of Leadership and Success, and a recipient of the Samuels Family Foundation Early Childhood Leadership Scholarship. I achieved these goals while working full-time, attending classes, and dealing with the current pandemic’s stresses. I would not be successful without my faith in God and the love and support from my family, friends, and school community.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
One challenge I faced was a lack of confidence in myself and finding the confidence to go back to school. I have grown more confident over the years of working on myself and my professional life.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am an employee of Trinity Episcopal in Galveston. We are a small private school with 268 students, and we have classes for students two years old through 8th grade. Trinity Episcopal School was established in 1952 and is accredited through The Independent Schools Association of the Southwest, The National Association of Independent Schools, and the National Association of Episcopal Schools. I absolutely love to welcome prospective families to our historic campus and talk to them about our school and how we challenge our students academically and help them grow in faith and love. Trinity Episcopal School is a wonderful place to send your children to learn and thrive. I have personally helped nurture many children, and I have witnessed the benefits of Trinity Episcopal School by watching my Godson, Matthew, grow physically, mentally, and spiritually as a student of Trinity for eleven years. The mission of Trinity Episcopal School is to nurture and educate children in a God-centered environment, filling hearts and minds with a passion for learning, a solid moral foundation, a commitment to social responsibility, and respect for all people.

What does success mean to you?
Success is achieving your goals no matter your age, always having dreams, working towards them, and being kind. Success is also wanting to better yourself to inspire and help others. It is making mistakes, learning from them, and continuing to move forward no matter what obstacles get in your way.
