Today we’d like to introduce you to Yasmine Zavala and Jasmine Perez.
Hi Yasmine and Jasmine, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Yasmine and I; or should I say “The Lateanas”, are two Gen-Z hardworking Latinas who are hungry for success. We met in middle school but were inseparable since high school cheer. Yasmine and I are the excessive talkers that have to be told to shut up or we will keep talking. We ALWAYS had a story to tell whether it was at the gym or a family gathering. Everyone would be surprised at how well we got along and could stick with each other for days so we decided, why not start our own podcast? We began collecting the electronics, took professional pictures, and prepared ourselves for the big day. We were anxious and adrenaline was at 100 because we had no idea where this would take us.
On June 4th, 2021, we sat on my room floor, set the microphones up and began recording. After a good 10 tries, we finally got the perfect intro episode. We uploaded and immediately began to receive positive feedback from people, Yasmine and I were extremely proud and we knew that we had to keep it going. We uploaded episodes once a week, did Starbucks give aways, supported small businesses to what helped us grow. In our podcast, we talk about our life experiences, how we met, how we cope with life situations, and our daily routines. Yas and I love the podcast journey and have not stopped since. We hope to continue growing and help those in need in the future.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting a podcast was definitely not easy at all. Like any other business, we have had our struggles and accomplishments. Although they are not major struggles we take every detail into consideration. Finding topics every week and making sure every episode is relatable. We like our listeners to feel like they are in the same room as us for a “girl chat” so making sure we make the perfect episode every week is overwhelming at times. Also, we both have full time jobs finding time out of our busy week has made for some late nights but in the end, we love doing it every week and wouldn’t have it any other way.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
The Lateanas podcast mainly revolves around what we have experienced in our personal life. Whether it’s having ups or downs we want to make everyone feel comfortable expressing themselves. We would love to help anyone and support each other as one. But most importantly, we want to be the big sisters many people don’t have. You can find The La-Tea-Na’s on Apple Podcast, Spotify, Google Podcast, and Amazon Music!
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
A podcast is all about stating your own opinions so at times it can be risky on certain topics because not everyone has the same opinions as you. It’s good that we both have different opinions on certain topics because majority of the time we get different points of view.
