Today we’d like to introduce you to Babar Khan.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My background is in Telecommunications. I graduated with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and was fortunate to work with the top manufacturer and the best service provider in the Telecom industry at the time. After the Telecom bust and trying my hand at a few things, I landed a job with one of the leading Interactive Whiteboard manufacturers about 12 years ago when this industry was just developing (Interactive Displays & Collaboration or Visual Collaboration).
I worked for the top two companies in this industry for about 7 years. Then I began consulting (helping foreign companies enter US market and advising US/Canadian companies with their meeting room solutions). I always wanted to start my own business and during my last stint of helping a company enter the US market and set up their sales and marketing channels (including distribution and reseller partners, System Integrators and other partners) I thought to myself that with the experience I have, why don’t I do it for myself. So after having some reservations initially, I finally started my own company.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
That’s a good question. It’s not been smooth. I honestly thought that with all my previous sales experience and business network I would have no problems getting the business going. However, the business has had some challenges. 1. As you can imagine it was challenging to go to some of the same partners to sell my product as they need time before taking on a new product 2. Making sure there is enough initial cash flow to keep the company running.
Please tell us about Visual AV.
Visual AV manufactures and sells interactive touch displays that are used in meeting rooms, classrooms, training facilities, and other meeting spaces to provide a rich, collaborative experience.
Our Myriad interactive displays and collaboration software help Enterprise / Corporate companies achieve efficiency while working in a team environment. Our education software was developed by ex-teachers so it’s very intuitive and helps teachers and students alike with personalized learning and digital teaching resources. Our primary target markets are Enterprise / Corporate meeting spaces and K-12/ Higher Education classrooms.
What sets us apart from others is and we are very proud of is that over the past 12 years we have worked with and listened to our corporate customers to build a product that can be used as a standalone solution or bundled with other corporate products such as Video conferencing, Audio Conferencing and meeting room technologies to provide a complete collaborative solution.
Similarly, we have hired ex teachers and educators who have helped develop our education software that is intuitive and easy to use. The software comes as part of the touch displays purchase. One of the largest secondary market for our displays is the Digital signage market. This includes airports, hotels, restaurants, events, lobbies and other public places.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
