Today we’d like to introduce you to Kenton Jackson.
Hi Kenton, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Hey, my name is Kenton Jackson. I am a twenty-four-year-old man from the great city of Shreveport, Louisiana. I am a self-taught photographer/videographer, and also an admissions counselor! I am a 2021 graduate of the University of Louisiana-Lafayette. My journey through undergrad student leadership changed the original course of my life, and the connections I made not only allowed me to be able to move to Houston, but allowed me to gain the confidence in my artistic ability to turn my every now and then hobby into a legitimate source of income!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My best friend always says “I don’t trust anyone who doesn’t have any scars”. Growing up, I was raised by my mother and my grandparents. I, unfortunately, lost my grandmother at the age of 14 and lost my grandfather at the age of 20. Both deaths had adverse effects on me that changed the course of my life. My grandmother was the most loving person I had ever spoken to. At a time when I didn’t have confidence, she always found a way to instill confidence in me, and she laid out the foundation for how I try and display love today.
My grandfather was my father figure. He was the definition of a man in my eyes. Losing him at 20, right around the same time I was starting to take a deep dive into photography, made me begin to actually make decisions as it pertained to my life, and not let life just happen to me.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a self-taught photographer/videographer. I mainly specialize in portraits, but have experience in multiple other avenues of the art. I am extremely proud of how far I’ve come in that time frame. It’s been a lot of sleepless nights and self-doubt that I have persevered through to become the creative that I am today. I believe what sets me apart from other creatives is my vision. I feel that I have the ability to turn the smallest of resources and maximize them to the best of my ability.
