Today we’d like to introduce you to Christopher Moreno.
Hi Christopher, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My story begins with me pursuing a new passion for fitness at 13 years old (around 2007).
After years of making progress in my own journey, the desire of helping others do the same began to develop (around 2015).
My first clientele consisted of my mother, Carmen Oyola, and my best friend, Robert Herrera.
After helping them not only achieve their own goals, but also teaching them the habits to sustain their results, that’s when I knew had been blessed with the abilities of leading and providing guidance for those looking to make a change.
Fast forward to January 2017, I make the decision to begin the online coaching portion of my business, Chris Moreno Training, where I started getting more and more opportunities to help more and more people. At this time, this was more of a side project.
During May of 2017, long story short, I was laid off from my job at the time, which ended up being a blessing in disguise. Once June came around, I decided to go all-in on my passion and make helping others achieve their fitness goals become my way of living.
So I began personal training at Fitness Connection from June 2017 to about October 2019 (during this time, I was still growing the online coaching portion of my business. I began coaching my girlfriend Kaitlyn Prado, current face to face clients, my brothers Mario Moreno and Mark Moreno, friends, and others who I had earned their trust via word of mouth).
Once October of 2019 came around, personal training at Fitness Connection started taking a turn for the worst. Despite my passion still burning with the desire to help others, the income from my job started decreasing due to a loss of face to face clientele.
So I had to make the decision of leaving my job in order to earn more income to build my business, Chris Moreno Training, while still taking care of other obligations (bills, living essentials, etc.)
From November 2019 through May 2020, I was working at a job solely for income. My sleep, my relationships, and my overall well-being started to become affected. Pretty soon, I felt like I had become stuck in “a hamster wheel” where no matter how much I felt I was going forward, growth did not seem to be taking place.
Then one Saturday in May of 2020, after I finished working out, my good friend Joe Courvier came up to me and presented me with an opportunity that I still remember vividly.
He had asked me, “If I were to open up a gym, would you like to (personal) train there?”
My response was an immediate yes!
Two weeks later, Joe got the facility for True Warrior House and I instantly put in my two-week notice at my job.
Fast forward to June of 2020 and I was back to face to face personal training!
In-person clientele increased, online clientele increased, everything kept on building, on average, month after month after month.
Up until October of 2021, where I was hit with some unfortunate news. Joe had to make the decision to temporarily close down True Warrior House in order to save for a brand new facility.
However, Joe being the great friend that he is, he allowed me to take whatever equipment I needed in order to continue personal training. Because of him, I have been able to continue growing my business as a whole and doing what I am meant to do, and that’s to help others solve their problems.
And this has now led to where things are currently. From November 2021 to today, I am currently personal training all of my clientele at an at-home training studio all while still continuing to build my business as a whole.
To say the least, I am blessed to be able to do this for a living, and I am stoked to see what 2022 (and the future) has in store!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The struggles along the way were:
– Having to leave personal training for a bit solely for more income
– Getting told that True Warrior House had to be temporarily closed
– Making the leap to 100% working for myself and my clients
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a coach/leader that specializes in helping others build the confidence to take control of their lives through fitness, nutrition, and daily habits.
What honestly makes me the most proud is having had the opportunities so far in guiding others to literally a better version of themselves. Not only that, but because their physical and, most importantly, their mental states have become their best, as a byproduct, my clients now make the lives of those around them better.
The dads are better husbands, the moms are better wives, the businessmen are better employers, they are all better people.
What I would say what separates me from the rest is that I make it a goal to have my clients not need me as quickly as possible. Forcing them to depend on my services to sustain their results would be crippling them, not helping them. Even if it’s a result of having less clients, my number one priority with each and every client is to get them to their goal as quickly as possible, and to teach them, as quickly as possible, the daily habits it takes to sustain their results.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
