Today we’d like to introduce you to Quinn Menard and Adrian Gomez.
Hi Quinn and Adrian, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
At the beginning of 2020, I was a recent college graduate and had this crazy idea that I could get into making custom tumblers. This all started because I felt like it was something I could make versus paying someone else to do so. I called my sister Adrian Gomez and she laughed and told me to go for it. After a little more talking we decided we would start this new adventure together. Our name came about very quickly, as we are sisters and we are definitely the sassy ones! There were countless hours spent doing research to ensure we would have the best of the best when it came to all of our supplies. We then built our first three turners for our cups! Wow, we were really in business!
Less than a month after starting our fun new adventure the COVID-19 Pandemic hit. I am a teacher, so I (Quinn) was home from work and Adrian was now trying to navigate virtual school with her three young children. We spent each day together working and building Sassy Sisters because it was truly a distraction from what was going on in the world. It was fun and really something to pass the time on. Little did we know then what would become of this fun little idea. We have now expanded with two separate shops, we have increased our production from 3 turners to 18 between the two shops (and looking at expanding again!) and we are now traveling for events!
We started with just tumblers and we now offer custom pens, keychains and other various epoxy items. Not only are Sassy Sisters products sold through our Facebook, but we also attend various farmer’s markets and local events around town on the weekends. We are also working on getting our tumblers into local boutiques in the near future!
Now more than ever our little side hustle is our passion and escape when we just need time to be creative. We are both extremely creative people and we absolutely love getting to use our creative side to design new cups and other items.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
In the beginning, there was a lot to learn even with extensive research. We have had many uh-oh’s when it comes to the designs of our items and usually, we can find the beauty in a disaster by changing one small thing! This has taught us to always look for the good even when sometimes it is hard to see!
It has not always been the smoothest of roads, but we continue to persevere and know that our little business grew leaps and bounds from what we originally expected and we have faith that each hiccup or setback is to teach us a valuable lesson in business!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Our most popular items are custom glitter and non-glitter epoxy tumblers. We can customize and create just about anything that you can dream up and we love having the opportunity to put a vision to life on a tumbler! We are also offering epoxy pens (our newest item) and we have various key chains and other small items as well for sale. We are always on the lookout for the next thing to bring to our business, and it is fun to continue researching and learning all of the time!
I am honestly proud of our business in itself! When this crazy idea first transpired it was a really big dream and it amazes me each and every day at the love and support for our business. Also, when we are at an event and people come up to us and say things like “I came here just to see you” or “your cups are the absolute best tumblers.” And one of the coolest things is having our friends spot our tumblers out in public. That has been the most recent and coolest thing!
I believe that because we take our time and are a bit of perfectionist it shows in our work. We are very picky and will not let any product out the door if it is not up to our standards! This being said these are custom handmade art pieces and minor flaws are always a possibility, but we strive to have them as minimal as possible!
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love that Houston harbors so many opportunities to grow and explore. It seems like there is always something new to experience within the greater Houston area.
My most favorite thing would be getting out of the city limits and being able to live in a more country setting while still having the ease of accessing the needs that a larger city has to offer.
Pricing:
- Majority of our cups start at $40 (there are a few exceptions)
- Pens begin at $10
