Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Flores.
Hi Amber, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started Cosmetology Sophomore year of high school. Originally, I had no intentions in doing hair long term. It wasn’t until I got a job in a Men’s Salon that my interest grew over time. After a few years of working in a salon, I found myself wanting to further my education and technique, so I made the decision to attend Barber school. Barber school is what opened the doors for me to really be able to take what I love and make it into a career. The Barber community is like no other. In my area (Houston area) everyone for the most part is so supportive of each other. We uplift, and encourage each other. I seriously can say I love what I do. Now being 8 years in this industry I feel as that I have found my passion.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’d be lying if I said this road has been easy. Being a woman in a male dominant industry does come with possible criticism and judgment. However, as long as you’re happy doing you, who cares?! I had a dream to go on my own, build a clientele, and provide quality services that related to Men’s grooming. Of course, there’s more to it than people think. Now that I work for myself I’m in charge of everything which could be a challenge from time to time.

FadeAway Barber Studio opened in April 2021. FadeAway is an upscale Barber Studio in the heart of Katy, TX that offers exceptional, quality grooming services. We specialize in anything from Skin Fades, Beard Services, Nose Waxing, to Undercuts. We are most proud of keeping our clients looking and feeling good by listening to their needs and wants throughout any haircut.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Honestly, the most important lesson I have learned is to dream big, and never give up. It sounds so cliché, but there has been times when I seriously wasn’t even seeing a return in business, but I stuck through it because I knew I would not be happier anywhere else doing anything else.
