Today we’d like to introduce you to Marco and Miranda Solis.
Hi Marco and Miranda, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Marco and I, Miranda, were two young adults in 2018 with some money saved up, looking to invest it. We decided we wanted to try our hand at entrepreneurship and start our own business, Sunshine Margaritas. Everything was more or less figured out, we just had to jump in and do it! But….. I found out I was pregnant and everything was put on hold. We decided to use the money we saved for an investment to purchase a home and get ourselves set up for a new life with our baby Manolo. As we were settling into our new roles as parents and raising our son, Marco brought up the idea of Sunshine Margaritas again in 2021.
I was nervous because we just reached our goals on a savings cushion and was scared to gamble on ourselves. Good thing Marco is a risk taker and a “figure it out as we go” person, because we jumped into Sunshine Margaritas head first! Recently, Marco told me once he purchased our first machine and was bringing it home, he was having doubts, but couldn’t tell me as I was already a nervous wreck. Good thinking!!
Today, we’re extremely confident in Sunshine Margaritas and are constantly pushing ourselves to do better. We proudly wear our yellow t-shirts for deliveries and love having our son Manolo join us. Our hope is that we teach him the value of working hard to earn what you want and that we can grow our business together as a family.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
With starting Sunshine Margaritas, I’ve had to adopt the “it will never be perfect, jump in anyway” mindset with our business. I am a planner, a perfectionist, and quite honestly, a pessimist. Marco is the complete opposite and that is exactly why we work so well together. We announced the opening of our business in May 2021 without having everything completely figured out yet. Our thought was that we wouldn’t have bookings for a few weeks but calls started flooding in. We scrambled to get our payment system set up, our service agreement written, and our delivery areas established. Thankfully, everyone who booked us in the beginning was so kind and forgiving because we were learning as we were going.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Sunshine Margaritas Party Rentals?
Sunshine Margaritas is a small family business that offers frozen slushie or margarita rentals. While there are a few margarita rental businesses in the Houston area, I think one of the things that sets us apart is the ease of communication with us. It is entirely possible to send a few text messages back and forth, send an email with a Paypal invoice, and have us show up for your event without even having to call us! We are fast to respond to your initial inquiries, we send date and time reminders, update you when we’re on our way for delivery, we’re available at all times for questions or concerns after we drop off the machine, and we even send alcohol purchase reminders for people who are having parties on Sundays!
While I’m proud of our customer service skills, another thing I am proud of is having a family business we can all be included in. Our 3 year old son Manolo comes to deliveries with us and helps by carrying the mixes, handing us our gloves, and throwing away the trash. He even helps make content for our social media and quite often steals the show! We’re hoping that Manolo continues to love Sunshine Margaritas and becomes an even bigger part of our family business as he gets older.
Any big plans?
Our plans for the near future include purchasing another machine for rental and start offering premium flavors at no additional cost. We’d also love to meet with wedding venues and develop enough of a relationship to be on their trusted vendors lists. With this, we’d expand into offering services for dressed margaritas, full bar services, and even a margarita wall!
Eventually, we’d love to purchase a fourth machine to rent it, at a lower cost, bi-weekly or monthly to restaurants who would like to serve frozen drinks, but don’t want to deal with the hassle of cleaning or sourcing flavor inventory.
Far off into the future, we’d like to expand our delivery areas to other parts of Houston by franchising machines to trusted friends and family to manage on their own. We’d also like to expand our rental services into other items such as popcorn machines, outdoor projector movie nights, and even axe throwing! So stay tuned for our growth!!
