Today we’d like to introduce you to Dylan Maynard.
Hi Dylan, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My family recognized the creative spirit in me and cultivated that from the beginning. Allowing me to experiment with fashion, be fluid in my style. Drawing on my skin, converse & bedroom walls were all acceptable canvases. I briefly studied Fine Arts at The University of West Georgia but eventually decided to move to Texas to start getting my art into the world. In 2018, I began showing my canvases around Houston as DylansWorkshop Bright and Bold Fine Arts. Steady pop-Up markets snowballed into larger commission projects, installing a public art wall, completing a mural, and having international features in Spain & the UK.
Fast forward to 2021, I decided to start modeling. Posing for the camera empowers me. I experience a wide range of emotions from modeling as a clown in the street to showing a softer side in a beautiful outfit. Being both the artist & model offers a unique perspective. The space between the artist & the model is an intimate moment I value. Studying their curves, learning their shadows. I enjoy live sessions because I can get to know the model’s energy & capture that in the drawing My goal this year, is to have my first solo exhibition.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Things have progressed nicely, although the past couple of years have been a challenge to participate in as many events as I’d like. I enjoy adapting, though. My focus has shifted towards online presence. Making videos about my work is a lot of fun to help the viewer understand my story.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m an artist model working in as many mediums as possible. Currently, I’m focused on charcoals & watercolor. But I also enjoy fluid acrylics & aerosol.
What sets me apart from others? My drive, I never give up.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I have many mentors, maestros & supporters on my team. Be aware of the people U communicate with daily. Are they bringing U wisdom or woe? Peace or anxiety?
Collaborate with people U want to learn from. Expose yourself to things that intimidate U. A good team will cheer U on & help U grow.
