Today we’d like to introduce you to Jose “Shorty” Torres.
Hi Jose, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
A first generation Mexican Puerto Rican Shorty from Chicago who grew up in what I believe is the typical Latino upbringing in Chicago. Surrounded by gangs, violence, drugs and more. I was pushed into the gym and I never left. The gym and the people I met inside of it were the proper role models I needed to push through and graduate from school, college, claim multiple championships in numerous amount of sports and eventually become a successful professional fighter that is able to give back to his community and show that where you come from does not mean a thing. It just makes you stronger.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Every road has its bumps and in my career where anything can happen at any time. It’s something we have to live with and learn how to roll with life’s punches. It’s been one hell of a process, but I’m still pushing through as best as I can and I’m happy I have the determination and willingness to do so. That’s what makes a champion.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I am a professional fighter, actor, commentator, and instructor.
I also run my own foundation that helps keep kids, teens, and young adults stay inside the gym and off the streets to hopefully find the role models I did to help them achieve whatever they want to achieve. We also help the community during holidays to help fund meals, toys, clothes, and more.
