Today we’d like to introduce you to Marlon Moore.
Hi Marlon, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
The gourmet snack business was introduced to me by a fellow associate. I knew it would be a great opportunity for me to pass it to my children someday. The journey to entrepreneurship has taken a lot of hardwork, determination, and sleepless nights. I have participated in multiple pop up shops, where I’ve promoted my business. I realized early on to not be afraid of going above and beyond to get your company noticed. I’ve remained focused, realizing that this company is bigger than me. I love what I do. I have a great team behind me. For a company who’s only been in business for a year, the support has always been there.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it has not been a smooth road, but it has been a fun experience. One struggle that I have faced is overbooking myself for events. There just isn’t enough hours in a day. Another struggle that I face is financing. Having the ability to balance funds for the company while having a life can be tough. Thirdly, having enough product to meet the demand for it. Sometimes the weather can be uncooperative. Regardless of what the circumstance I had to continue to push through. Lastly, knowing your customers and making them happy. Negative feedback can be a real problem if you’re not equipped to handle it.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Mr. Popcorn Man & Moore?
Mr. Popcorn Man & Moore is a family owned company out of Houston, TX. I started with 5 basic flavors and now we’re up to 10 with a flavored pecan. We specialize in gourmet snacks such as popcorn and pecans. We are known for our many classic flavors as well as our flavors with a twist such as Cinnamon Bun and Celebration Station. I did things differently when I figured out the different flavors. I went out and surveyed people about the different flavors they had in mind. My team went to work making sure that our product was of a higher quality. I did not take constructive criticism personally. I listened and made the necessary adjustments. I am most proud of the fact that people love and enjoy a brand that I am passionate about.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
The things I like best about Houston is the culture, people and the food. The things I like the least about Houston are the traffic and road construction.
