Today we’d like to introduce you to Treva Jones.
Hi Treva, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Started singing at a young age in the Unity Choir at Unity Baptist Church in Oklahoma City. Joined a group of young teenagers called the Belle Tones and the Interdenominational Choir as well. In 1978, moved to Houston, joined Christian Hope Baptist Church where the late Carl Preacher was the Music Director and Organist. Preacher was the one who really mentored me in believing in this God given gift. Early 80s joined the late Ronald Materre and the Inspirational Voices of Praise. Later years met the Legendary V. Michael McKay who noticed something special in me and currently is my mentor. A trio group called Women of Integrity was one of my seasonal moments which I sung the tenor line. In 2011, Legendary Grammy Producer, Sanchez Harley noticed my gift and reached out to work with me. In 2014 an EP titled. I Am Praise written by V. Michael Mckay was dropped. In 2017, the completed CD project was established. Currently working on my single, Proud of Me!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Being on this musical journey has its challenges. My style of singing can be considered as traditional and it may not fit certain platforms and/or formats. Hebrews 10:35-36 is what I have held onto. You have to be confident in knowing your assignment and stay true to it. My mission is to comfort those with my music ministry and meet them wherever they are, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
In 2013, I retired from the City of Houston of 32 years. I was proud of my working career in Human Resources because it gave me those tools professionally on my musical journey. But I’m most proud being a single parent to my miracle Son, Jeremy L. Baldwin.
Any big plans?
My plans are to continue this musical journey and trusting God in the process. I currently minister musically at 2 churches in Houston and loves it. Looking forward to my new single Proud of Me to teach the masses. I just want to be a blessing!
