Today we’d like to introduce you to Dihandria Bright.
Hi Dihandria, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I had recently taken a Masterclass of Sara Blakely, the founder and inventor of Spanx. In her Masterclass, she mentioned keeping a notebook near your bed to write down any ideas as they come. So one night in September of 2019, the vision of PillowScript came to me. I was awakened out of my sleep and I started to work on the idea immediately. I faced many challenges and heard many no’s and it’s impossible but I believed that if I could see the vision, then I could create it. Life happened, pregnancy and the pandemic, so I put it on hold. When it was time for me to return to work after my maternity leave, I decided then that I would pick it back up and make it happen so that I could have a better work life balance and freedom to be present with my infant. So in January of 2021 – I pushed forward on making PillowScript a reality. We launched successfully on December 3, 2021.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Initially, when I thought of it, I never knew anything about the textile industry so I contacted a few seamstresses to see if they could help. The first, told me “no problem”, I can make it. She took my deposit and materials and then stopped answering my calls. Another seamstress told me it was impossible, if it was possible it would have been created already. So at that point, I’m like I can see the vision in my head, so I know it’s possible. I then decided to create the prototype myself. I used safety pins to put the material together because I couldn’t sew. I now had a prototype that showed the vision and I knew more than ever that it could be made, I just needed to find someone who could do it. So the search began and in April of 2021, I found someone who was able to bring my vision to life.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I most recently come from the world of Project management but it was not a job of passion, more so for stability. I have always been a creative. I use to be a songwriter and I would always follow my heart and every whim I had. So creating PillowScript truly has brought back my passion and creativity that I was missing and yearning for, for years. I am so proud that I continue to push forward and always follow my dreams even when it’s uncomfortable. Even when the path isn’t clear. I go for it and God always shows up and shows out when I let my faith lead!
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
Never give up on yourself. You are capable of way more than you realize and once you break through the comfort zone, your biggest dreams and desires will materialize on the other side. Keep going, your best is yet to come! That is the spirit of PillowScript and our LOVE collection.
