Today we’d like to introduce you to Wes Simon and Laura Flagg.
Wes and Laura, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I had been a trainer in Houston for 12 years before I started The G-Y-M in 2015. I have a passion for helping people and I wanted to bring quality and better customer service to the fitness and health industry. The G-Y-M has been open for 3 years now and every year we’ve been voted top 10 gyms in Houston by Houston Chronicle and Yelp. This past 3rd year we actually made top 2 gyms in Houston and that’s all because of our outstanding customer service.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting a new business and leaving behind a consistent income while being a father to two wonderful kids was a HUGE challenge and risk. The first year was very rough but once the community recognized our customer service, knowledge and enthusiasm to teach more the community has gotten behind us. Going into our fourth year I aim to continue to find above average trainers with the same vision so we can continue to change the fitness industry for the better.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about The G-Y-M – what should we know?
We have a diverse training staff that can help anyone with any goal. We are known for helping people with bodybuilding, powerlifting, corrective exercises, specific sports and general health. We help people of all age groups. We are proud of the response we’ve gotten back from the community, which sets us apart from other gyms. People genuinely enjoy coming here, and feeling like they’re part of something positive.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Good customer service is the most important quality that has helped us grow. The majority of our members come because they have read the online reviews or were referred by friend or family.
