Lauren, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Ever since I can remember, I’ve always had a natural fondness of helping others achieve their goals and tap into their natural given abilities. In college, my classmates would always ask me to give them advice on how they should structure their resumes for internships. I found myself being the “go-to” person for everyone to send their resumes to review or rewrite for them. Seeing as I was a Human Resources major, it was natural for others to gravitate towards me for help in that area. After I graduated from college and started working in HR in corporate America, I still found that people would ask me for resume advice; friends would ask me to help them write their resumes or give them interviewing advice so they knew what to say during their interviews. As years progressed and the LinkedIn platform became a huge resource to business professionals and jobseekers, I started being asked to help revamp LinkedIn profiles in order to catch the eyes of recruiters and hiring managers.
The longer I worked in HR, I noticed that there were many qualified individuals being overlooked for positions, mainly due to not knowing how to “sell” themselves or strategically highlight their skills on paper. I believe that EVERYONE deserves a career that they enjoy and not being able to write a resume shouldn’t stand in the way of that. People are hired because of their talents and I wanted to build a brand that takes the hard part off of jobseekers that may need more assistance in this area; which is why I created Legendary Resumes & Career Services. Legendary Resumes & Career Services is a brand that not only helps diverse individuals with creation of career documents but also focuses on helping people gain the confidence they need in order to get their foot in the door to careers of their dreams and finding career opportunities that ultimately make them feel happier and more fulfilled.
I say all this to say that helping others is what brings me absolute joy. The look on people’s faces when they finally land the job they’ve been trying so hard to get or when they’ve gained the confidence to negotiate a job offer for the first time and it worked; I can’t tell you how happy that makes me.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Oh man, it most definitely has not been smooth sailing. I’m a perfectionist by nature, which may sound like a great quality to have, and it is (sometimes), however, I put off starting my business for the longest because I wanted everything to be “perfect” before launching or telling anyone about it. Anyone who has started a business will tell you that nothing is ever perfect. If you’re waiting on perfect, you’ll be waiting forever and that’s really where I found myself … just waiting. I got to the point where I had to tell myself to just start! The advice that I had given to so many others about being confident in your talents and abilities, I now had to give to myself and trust that everything would fall into place like it’s supposed to.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Taking risks can be scary, I think everyone can relate to that. If I’m being honest, I’m not a natural risk-taker, but there are times when you just have to step out on faith and trust your heart. You have to have faith to know that even if this “thing” I’m taking a risk on doesn’t work out, there was a lesson I was supposed to learn in this. In my opinion, there’s always a takeaway from every experience that we have. Some experiences teach us lessons and others provide confirmation that we’re on the right path, but both are needed in order to push us to be the person we’re supposed to be, to get to our purpose and I believe that if you want to live your life with purpose, sometimes risks are meant to be taken.
