Today we’d like to introduce you to Karla Rios.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
There are pivot moments in time. Those that make you reflect about life and change your path. I had one of those at the age of 30 and I had another one at 40. Both involved major moves (geographically), change jobs and ending very significant relationships.
No one knows the heartache that leaving all this behind can cause but sometimes, life gives you a push to change gears and understand, you need to grow up.
So, while you face facts about yourself and understand that there is nothing to change in the world if you don’t consider to change your own “limiting beliefs”, then life start pivoting around you and offers you the opportunity to choose many ways to improve yourself.
Why? Because you realize there are countless ways to get to Rome.
So, my journey started with the question, What is my purpose in life? Yes, I have a profession, and I know who I am and I have this lovely responsibility of being a mom but, Is that my purpose in this world?
Finding your purpose in life can become philosophical and exhausting because it requires a lot of self-reflection.
On top of that, I’m very logical in my approach to problem-solving activities and therefore, I started taking online quizzes, looking for my personality type and its purpose attached and yes, some alignment started to happen.
Then, I have to say than when you are in doubt, just ask for help. And I’m very spiritual. So I started reading Neale Donald Walsch and there is a quote from one of his books that says: “Your soul doesn’t care what you do for a living – and when your life is over, neither will you. Your soul cares only about what you are being while you are doing whatever you are doing.”
And then I understood, we spend so much time defining and finding ourselves when we can be anything we want. What matters is to do it with the goodness of our hearts. It’s our intentions what defines us.
Yes, there are talents and that, makes us do amazing things but, if we do it with a sour or meh feeling, there is no way you can find happiness through it. Maybe some instant gratification, but nothing that lasts.
This journey, end up in making me just aware that the change I needed to make in myself was always there. My spirituality. To understand that connected to, a Higher Self for some, God for me, the changes I face through life, are bearable.
That doing everything with the best intentions and anchored spiritually, saves heartaches when these efforts are not reciprocated. So, leaving the egotistical approach has been my learning and my freedom.
And that’s how I started my wellness Instagram account. To help others to never feel alone while facing adversity. To understand, there is always someone who can “listen” through a text or chat in anyway. I recently opened a Peanut account and I offer my advice to women who are venting their feelings.
I have been getting certified in NLP, active listening and life coaching because I feel, that’s how I can contribute to a greater good.
You would say it sounds too altruistic but in return, I learn from every soul. And we are all unique and wonderful. If each one of us could understand how truly amazing we are, we wouldn’t have the need of mental health awareness.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Those struggles have been there to make the road interesting. I apologize, but I’m an optimist. I always learn from everything. Of course, in the middle of the struggle, there is no fun. However, after it happens, you always become more resilient and learn a lesson. Either how to handle a new situation, or a new side of you, you didn’t know
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I think of myself as an active listener. So far, I don’t do this for a profit but to support the community. Meaning, anybody who wants to visit my account and feel inspired by the posts. I also interact with therapists and re-posts their work in my stories. As a support to their work and contribution to mental health.
The goal is to help others and to embrace personal growth
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
My personal advice is that you know what you are looking for with your “startup”. Clear goals, clear results. I believe in abundance, but the universe needs to know what you want.
Also, never alone. Find yourself a circle of friends to always support you. This is a golden rule.
Last but not least, spirituality. Connect to it. If you think about it, there is always something that can’t be explained by science. And I think, that is what some call energy, others Higher Self, but for me, it is God.
