Conversations with Hayley Myers

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hayley Myers.

Hi Hayley, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I decided to move to Houston, TX in 2018 from Chicago. I had about $800 in my bank account and nowhere to stay but with a lot of prayer and support from my parents and siblings, I made a leap of faith and went for it. I started off my business at the beginning of the pandemic, making custom press-on nails; believe or not. It was fun and all but it was a little too intricate for me and took up a lot more time than I anticipated. Towards the middle of the pandemic, I decided to do a rebrand. I’ve always found the process of adding graphics to apparel intriguing, so my friend and I bought a cricut cutter together and started creating.

November 2020, I took a hiatus from creating nails and did a lot of research on how to create and launch an apparel brand. March 2021, I launched my rebrand of Chelsea Artistry where all garments are hand-made with love.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. There have been so many bumps in this road. The biggest bump I’ve had to combat is trying to create new products with my Teacher Assistant salary, but I made it work. Financially, mentally, emotionally, I had a lot going on but I had the support of my friends and family that kept me pushing.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I hand make hoodies, t-shirts, crewnecks that remind you that you’re worth it. So often we forget our worth in this society that we live in today. I think we all could use a little reminder every now and then that each of us individuals is important and are deserving of so much love and support, That’s what I would hope my line specializes in; but I still have a long way to go.

I also do custom orders as well, I’d have to say that is my favorite thing to do; being able to bring others’ ideas to life on a t-shirt makes me happy.

One thing I am most proud of is actually continuing on despite all the personal challenges I’ve endured throughout this journey. I was presented with so many opportunities to just give up, but here I am, still going.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
Well, God first and foremost.. I definitely would not have been able to pull this off without having Him in my corner. My parents and my siblings take second place, they have my biggest supporters and continually remind me to keep going, even when things got tough. Lastly, my amazing friends for letting me bounce ideas off of them.
