Today we’d like to introduce you to Dragan Crnjanski.
Hi Dragan, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My entire life, I dreamed to be a lawyer one day, so after graduating from law school in 2008, I got a job as an intern at a local legal office.
In 2010, I passed my bar exam and was offered a full-time position at the same legal firm as a criminal defense lawyer. After working for about a year, I realized that I actually didn’t like my job and that it’s mentally tough to (technically) live off someone else’s misery – so with the support of my wife, I decided to quit the legal career completely.
At first, I wasn’t really sure what I wanted to do so I applied for a job at a local water-producing plant as a warehouse worker. I deliberately chose a physically demanding position so I can reset my mind and points of view from being a lawyer.
After about a year working at the plant, I decided that it was time to start building something and one of the first things that popped into my mind was marketing. As a lawyer, I was a good orator and was quite talented in presenting facts with the goal to change or correct someone’s opinion and point of view to my advantage.
Since I didn’t have any formal marketing education and experience, in late 2012, I applied for a customer support position at a marketing agency in Phoenix AZ. I decided to enter the game in a position with the least amount of responsibility and chance for a mistake and build my way up gradually. In 2014, I became the general manager.
In early 2015, I decided that it was time to start something of my own since I’ve learned the industry inside-out and was very well connected by that time.
I started as a freelancer with just a handful of clients. As a one-man army, I was handling 7-8 different positions at once. I was a content writer, graphic & web designer, WordPress and Shopify designer and developer, Google PPC, social media ads specialist, salesperson, and my own accountant. It was a tough and very busy year.
There were no weekends, holidays, or sick days, just grinding double shifts every day. I’ve set it up like that on purpose, just so I can bring myself to be equally good at everything in order to be able to successfully lead my future team and not have to rely on someone else’s expertise in any field. Every hour spent working alone I was looking as an investment in my future marketing agency.
In early 2016, I hired a graphic designer and a content writer. Back then we all shared a desk in a co-working space. After a couple of months, we moved to a small office downtown and hired two more ads specialists. Then we moved to a bigger office and brought more people to join the team, then moved again and again…
Today, Pro Social Content LLC is a full-stack marketing agency that employs 25 people and is working with close to 300 US-based companies from every industry and vertical. We also work with a handful of premier US marketing agencies as a white-label service provider.
The journey is far from over, but so far it’s been pretty good. We had many ups and downs, survived Covid and other challenges. It wasn’t all pretty, especially in the early stages of growth but I managed to keep the business on course and pull through all difficulties relatively undamaged. 🙂
As you know, we’re big fans of Pro Social Content. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We are a full-stack marketing agency, covering almost every aspect of digital marketing. As a partly white-label service provider we don’t really specialize in anything, or better said, we specialize in everything.
Something that I am very proud of is our retention rate, which is a little over 90% despite the fact that we don’t lock people into any kind of contracts. By keeping things as simple as possible both internally and on the clients’ relations end, we have created a business environment that is very flexible and unburdened by complex processes.
What sets us apart is the success we are able to achieve for each of our clients. A fact that supports this is that we never spent a single dollar on advertising our services. Every client we have the pleasure to work with came through a personal recommendation by a satisfied customer.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Not quitting.
