Today we’d like to introduce you to Alicia Camiña.
Alicia, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
When I was young, I was always singing, listening to music and pretending to conduct an orchestra with chopsticks in my parent’s living room. When I turned 7, I started playing saxophone at the conservatory and at first, music was a game to me, but I was enjoying it so much that it became more serious. Through the path, I found a lot of people that told me that I wasn’t going to be able to make it, that I should study something else that has more options, but I knew music was the path I wanted to take.
After I graduated in Spain in saxophone performance, I decided to move to Boston to study at Berklee College of Music and that was a life changing for me. I met a lot people from the industry and a lot of doors opened for me. In fact, I’m currently touring with The Life and Music of George Michael around USA and Canada thanks to a Berklee connection.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been smooth at all. First, music is really expensive. If you want to buy an instrument, it costs more than a car sometimes. Secondly, it is a really competitive industry to be in. But all of this challenges make being a musician worthwhile because there is no other career path I would’ve chosen over music.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a saxophone player, composer and producer based in Boston. I’ve toured around Europe, USA and Canada with different artist, I’ve recorded saxophones for a Netflix series, I released my album Revolution, etc. I think what set me apart from others is my strength on stage, I really want to perform when on it. and it just fun for me, I want to enjoy the moment.
