Today we’d like to introduce you to Karina Johnston.
Hi Karina, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started about 6 years ago when I came to the United States as a college student and found out about the event industry. I was blown away by all the different services and the more I looked into it, the more interested I became! Since I didn’t get to experience any of it as a child, even a simple face painting or balloon animal amazed me. I tried my hand at face painting and later on caricatures and since then we grew to offer a lot of fun services and gathered a team of talented creative artists!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It’s definitely been a challenge and a lot of work but we were blessed with things working out very well for us!
One of the biggest struggles so far was to learn how to delegate the work and to switch my own mentality. As a business owner, especially if you are starting out by yourself, you are used to doing all the work – research, bookkeeping, advertising, creating the actual product or rendering the service, etc and it’s hard to start introducing new people into your project and trusting them to do it well! However, you can’t grow if it’s only you doing it all. There are only so many hours in a day and you can only be at one place at a time! It was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made!
Another thing was to switch the mentality. I had to make myself stop waiting for the things to be perfect so I can finally start working on my dream. Like a lot of people, I always was in the “when I finish college/move to a new place/get a new job…” mode where you wait for that lucky moment that will get everything finally working out for you. I had to start creating these moments by educating myself, taking risks and seeking opportunities! The next thing I know is that everything started to line up in front of me and since then I’m on my way!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Even though we started really small, WOW Party Art now offers a lot of different services – from event entertainment to balloon decorations and balloon gifts!
Since we started with everyone’s favorites – face painting, balloon animals and caricatures – I’d say those are definitely our specialty. However, we are always introducing new ideas! Just recently our team added such new fun services as henna tattoos, our signature glitter bar service and even Spa and Make Up party!
We also offer multiple rentals and decorations and that’s our main feature – we have all the different services available at all times and that makes planning a party way easier!
Finally, we are always expanding and now starting to offer our services across major Texas cities such as San Antonio and Austin!
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
The event industry is definitely a very high-pace and goes through new trends and shifts yearly! There are always plenty of ideas to WOW your guests!
Overall, I’m very positive about the industry’s future development as new products are coming up at least once a year and celebrating good moments is what make one’s life worth living and we are always there to bring our client’s ideas to life and help them treasure important moments!
