Meet Esteven Rodriguez of Production Sound Texas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Esteven Rodriguez.

Hi Esteven, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started during college while Attending at The Los Angeles Film School, the adjacent recording program in Hollywood, California back in 2010. I was in enrolled in their Audio Engineering program but I really wanted to learn music production which they didn’t have at that time. I stumbled into Sound for Film program during the end of the program. We had a course where we teamed with the film students to collaborate and make a thesis film. From there I networked into getting an internship at Sound Chef Studio where I was able to set up sessions for foreign dialogue recording on the TV show Law and Order.

I shortly moved to Fort Worth Texas where I was focusing more on making beats for hip hop artists because I wanted to be a music producer such as Kanye West, Timbaland, and Pharrell. Maybe less than a year I moved to San Antonio Texas where I currently live. I was focusing on making beats for upcoming Artist and collaborating with other music producers back home in California. Around 2015 I started a new job as an Audio Engineer at Hagee Ministries. Formally named GETV, We would record and mix multiple format programs such as Tv Spots, Talk Shows, Conferences, Documentaries, Broadcast Shows, Music related content, social media content all from In-house productions. I enjoy the broadcast audio, so started focusing more on location sound recording and the equipment needed. I slowly started building up my gear inventory so I could start freelancing and potentially go full-time with my business (Production Sound Texas).

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road wasn’t smooth at all. Many professionals in my early stages wouldn’t take you seriously if your résumé wasn’t good enough or if you didn’t have adequate equipment needed to fulfill their projects. Some of the hardest struggles were just finding clients that we’re able to pay a respective wage so you could make a living from your business freelancing. The pay rates were very low but that made me motivated to work for the bigger projects. Some mistakes were made and quickly learned from those. The biggest award was networking with the cast and crew on set, they will lead you to your next gig.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
