Rising Stars: Meet Kenya Lovett

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kenya Lovett.

Hi Kenya, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I always had a dream of one day owning and operating my own business, but didn’t know how to make it happen. After many product ideas and fail attempts I finally came up with a product that I was able to design, but yet didn’t know how to implement it. I begin to research affordable ways to turn my dream into a reality and I stumbled across the Etsy community. I studied shop after shop to see what others were selling and how they organized their shops. Weeks later after being introduced to Etsy, I finally decided to open my Etsy shop. I was beyond nervous and scared out of my MIND, but I realized in order to get something done, you first have to Do IT! I didn’t make any sales my first, second or third year due to the lack of not marketing my product. I was under the assumption that all you needed to do was list an item on Etsy and selling magic happens, WRONG!!!!! The only magic that happens was your hopes and dreams disappearing right before your eyes! Honestly, I wanted to give up, but the passion I had to win didn’t allow me to give up! I begin to research again, but this time for ways to market my business and bring actual customers to my Etsy shop. Social Media became my new marketing tool which I still use today. Although forming a relationship with Social Media finally brought in my first sale, I am still in the process of building my business.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it has not been a smooth road. My biggest struggle still is bringing my target audience to purchase from my Etsy Shop.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a Graphic Designer by profession, and Crafter by heart. I am proud that I am able to combine my two passions to create my products for my business. I feel my background in Computer Science sets me apart from others because not only can I design cute graphics, I can also build a website to sell my products.

What’s next?
My plan for my future is to become a household name. I want to further develop my brand and expand my business to sell other complementary products.
