Conversations with Hendry Herrera

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hendry Herrera.

Hi Hendry, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My name is Hendry Herrera and I am a 20-year-old creative based in Houston, TX. For as long as I can remember, taking photos has always been something that’s sparked my interest. When I was younger, before I was able to purchase the equipment I have now, I would constantly take photos using my phone, whether it was candid moments with my friends or scenery that I wanted to capture. What made me really fall in love with photography was the year I turned 16, when I got to hold a camera for the first time. My sister was graduating from high school and my parents decided to buy a camera for her graduation pictures. Little did they know, they were the first to invest in what was my hobby then, and is now something that I truly love doing more than just a hobby. As time passed, I began to fall more and more in love with this form of art and to this day enjoy learning new things about it. I’ve ventured from taking photos of random moments of my life to the other diverse styles that photography has to offer. By exploring these different styles, I was able to find the niche style that I felt fit me as a person the most, which was music photography.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
In all honesty, it has not been the smoothest of roads, there have been many challenges along the way to get to where am I right now. Even though I am nowhere near where I want to be. I am proud of what I have achieved up to this point. As time went on and I found the style of photography that I wanted to focus on I realized that I was entering an oversaturated industry. I knew that this meant that I was going to have to work a little bit harder. Entering this new world was going to be more difficult because it is not easy to get in contact with the people that I was trying to work with. Constantly going to different events, meeting new people, and using social media to find new places to network are some of the things that I knew I was going to indulge myself in. All of these things take up a lot of time, and sometimes it is hard to keep up with all of the events that are going on because I am also a full-time student. I am still working towards my goals and hopefully, all of my doings pay off in the end.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Concert and music photography is something that I am very passionate about because of my love for both music and photography. I have always followed photographers that shoot festivals, artists, and concerts. I knew that this was something that I would love to try in the future. When the opportunity came along for me to try it, I instantly fell in love with it. Ever since I have been trying to get better and better. I would say that I am most proud of all of the art that I have created up to this point and all of the great people that I have met along the way. I am excited to continue creating and getting better at what I do. Something that sets me apart from others that do what I do is that I love to shoot concert photography without flash, I feel like it gives me more room to be creative with the colors that are captured.

How do you think about luck?
I believe in opportunities that present themselves to you. When these opportunities come you should never let them pass you by without acting on them. If you put your efforts into them then your dreams and what you want can come into fruition. You never know where they could lead you. Trusting your vision can also work wonders because that is something that only you have and you are the only one that can act upon your visions to make them come true.
