Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamey and Alexandra Kuhn.
Hi Jamey and Alexandra, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Our story started back in 2014, in Katy, TX. We were a young family living in a neighborhood with other young families. One night a few neighbors got together and decided to play yard games. Someone brought out a set of cornhole boards that were horrible. They were a set you buy from a big box store. Jamey said, ” Nope, I can do better.” – and that is when an idea became a reality. Jamey started researching, ” How to make cornhole boards?”, “What type of wood and screws are used?”
So, once a plan had been drawn out, building took place in our 2 car garage. While I was taking care of our only child at the time, Jamey was in the garage cutting wood, sanding, staining, and painting set by hand. Showing our little one how a small family business can be built out of your garage.
Within a few days we had a cornhole set for us and the neighbors to play on. Over the years we have moved to a bigger place, so we can continue to grow the business.
Fast forward to now, We have 2 very handsome boys, and a lot of 4 legged friends, that help us with our family business. We moved to Magnolia, TX in the middle of a pandemic. Not ideal, when looking for a house with a little land and a shop. We were shocked when we found something.
So, now we currently have our family business in our backyard. We truly love what we do. Our motto is “Quality over Quantity.” We will never be a big box company, and we don’t plan on it. We love being able to get out in the community and promote our business and also love volunteering our time back to this new community, that has welcomed us with open arms. We are truly blessed, and thankful for the opportunities that have come our way with creating our business.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
The road to success is never smooth. The major challenge we are having currently is, how do we continue to build a beautiful cornhole set of boards at an affordable price when wood costs are so high.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Kuhn’s Custom Cornhole is a family owned and operated cornhole company. We are known for a quick turnaround time and the quality of our boards. We don’t cut corners to get the job done faster. We want to make sure the set of cornhole boards you get last you for many years. If you want more for events, family gathers, corporate events, weddings, graduations, retirement or just a weekend set for the beach house, we have you covered.
We have a few different designs you can pick from, depending on your budget. Our goal is to make sure you are 100% happy with your customized cornhole set.
As I had mentioned above, we pride ourselves on QUALITY NOT QUANTITY. We take our time, pay close attention to details and listen to the customer. We make sure the design they envision is brought to life. We are always looking for that “WOW” feedback. It may come in the form of a text message, because their boards were shipped to their house, or it may come out when they visit our shop to pick up their boards.
I would say there are 2 things that set us apart from the others, my husband, Jamey and I understand our roles within the business. He is front of the house type per say, connecting with the clients first and making sure they are getting what they asked for, he answers emails, questions, phone calls, texts and whatever else is thrown at him. He also does the final build out.
While I, Alexandra, am more in the background, I will work on the website, help fulfill bag orders and board orders, kreg, route, sand, stain, help design, pick and deliver all things related to cornhole.
Secondly, we have met a great group of men and women on this road to success, that are family now! They have helped us grow in the cornhole community immensely!
To anyone reading this article, you know who you are! We love you all and thank each of you for helping us on this journey.
It truly takes a village to success, as corny as that sounds.
What matters most to you? Why?
Family matters, business relationships matter, connections matter.
It is all about the people, without them, this company wouldn’t be where it is today.
