Meet Daniel Garay

Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Garay.

Hi Daniel, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My story starts somewhere around 2018, I was 24 years old, working a blue collar job and trying to figure myself out. I was young, dumb and addicted to adventure. At this time my buddy Daniel and I had developed quite the habit of going out to bars and breweries, and starting conversations with random people. Some were extremely interesting others could barely stand, but to us it was always a great time. Anyways after many midnight adventures, 5am whataburger trips, and a ton of hangovers we came up with the idea of starting a podcast where we told stories of our weekend adventures. Since both our names were Daniel we came up with the perfect name for the podcast The Weekly D because both our names are Daniel and also because it’s funny. We took off running telling stories, interviewing inebriated people and getting into some situations. We built an instant following and all was going great parties, and podcasting became life for us. Unfortunately, after 2 years my buddy Daniel decided he needed to get his life together and we had to part ways. For a few months, I thought the dream of podcasting was over. Fortunately for me another friend of mine (Kyle) was also struggling with his co-host to continue his podcast. So I gave him a call we talked for a while and then decided to do a few test runs. He was great! He gave the podcast a balance of personalities as I was more wild and he was a more conservative person. After teaming up we decided to rebrand The Weekly D Podcast into a interview based podcast focusing on highlighting up and coming artist and entrepreneurs. Kyle and I have now built a team of talented host, video and audio producers, as well as live streamers. We go by the Paper Plate Media Group and continue to grow our roster of personnel and podcast. We have also developed a partnership with the creators of Dogepalooza which is a cryptocurrency funded music festival. All in all, we are barely starting but so excited for the future

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
With Daniel dropping out and leaving me high and dry. I almost ended up giving up on the podcasting dream. Luckily I’ve been blessed to find a new podcasting partner in Kyle.

Also as a 1st generation Mexican-American it has been hard to convince my immigrant parents that a career in media is possible. Especially my dad who has always said that podcasting is just a waste of time.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Well, I’m a podcast host, content creator, and editor for The Weekly D Podcast. The funny thing is when we started I had no idea how to edit audio or even use audio equipment. Thankfully we live in the era of YouTube and a few hours watching set up videos and tutorials and I figured it out

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Of course one of the most important things is to just do it. I know that sounds cliche but one thing that keeps a lot of people from achieving their goals and dreams is the fear. Obviously, life is scary and sometimes it’s a risk but the way I see it is you’ll never know what can come out of it without trying it. Learn about what you want to do, obsess over it, make a plan, and just do it. You may succeed you may fail but at the end of the day you won’t have a regret or what if.
