Hi Kayla, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started spray tanning in 2009 as a fun side business. Word spread, as there weren’t many mobile spray tanning technicians in South Houston at that time. I moved to Dallas from 2010 – 2012 for a film internship and continued to do spray tans, as well as working as a bartender, until I came back to Houston in late 2012.
My dream of being in film/television came true in 2013 when I landed the opportunity to move out to Los Angeles and work a tv show when I landed. I worked my way up the industry, while continuing to take spray tans on the side. After 3 years in the film industry, I achieved my goal as a Camera Assistant in the Union, but something told me my time was done. I wanted to create my own hours and the film industry working hours are grueling. The freelance lifestyle was weighing on me with the financial instability. I finally stepped back from film and came across a job opening for a spray tanning technician at a highly reputable salon in Beverly Hills. I worked with this company for a year, and spray tanned celebrities and network executives, which was such a treat!. I learned so much about creating a luxury sunless tanning experience.
In November of 2016, a good friend had started a company that took off and he needed help, so I jumped ship at the salon and went full time into e-commerce. While the e-commerce company continued to grow and was doing well, I was missing my passion of being able to help people look and feel better, and had recently discovered I loved painting in general, so I started spray tanning again in 2017 on the side.
When 2020 hit, everything came to a halt – the e-commerce company went remotely indefinitely and everyone was scared to leave the house, but I was still getting calls for spray tans. So I decided to create the first full package self tanning kit, Bronzed Bliss Box – a sunless tanning kit that comes with all the bells and whistles you would get in a luxury spray tanning service.
At the end of 2020, my grandfather’s (which was my biggest supporter) health started to decline. I had told him if I ever came back to Texas, I would come back for him. I came back on September 16th and he passed away on September 17th. Due to that, I decided to stay in Texas since I could work remotely, and I pulled the trigger to officially move back in January of 2021. Since then, I’ve ramped up spray tanning and have a location in League City, Texas where I can take clients in a salon setting and I still travel to do tans in clients’ homes.
I truly love spray tanning people! I get to pair my love of painting and my artistic side gets to show when I’m able to contour abs, hips, muscles and faces. I always get tickled to see clients blown away at how amazing they look with a sunless tan. Sunless tanning has came a long way and I use 15 different colors to custom blend the tan to match the clients’ skin tone. My job is to enhance your natural beauty and I couldn’t be happier every time I get to do just that.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has been mostly smooth – my attention to detail has enabled me to build a happy clientele base. The only challenges I have currently are with marketing – with everything being online and thru social media, marketing isn’t my strong suit. I hope to get stronger in that aspect with practice.

Not to toot my own horn (but TOOT TOOT!) I know that I’m really good at what I do. I’ve managed to curate a truly custom luxury spray tanning experience. What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love the diversity in Houston! I also love how proud Houston is of Houston, and how proud everyone is to be a Texan! The only thing I dislike is the humidity – but hey! It’s good for the skin!
