Today we’d like to introduce you to Del Muzik.
Hi Del, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Originally from the Caribbean, the island of Dominica, but I reside in Houston, Texas.
I want to say listening to old school music, and how it was so simple back then, able to understand how the music made sense to a state where I could visualize the stories being told. I could either put myself in that context or just relate some way or another. That helped me home into my style and create my own pace, style and approach with storytelling.
How I got here is with patience, hard work, networking to the extreme and letting my work and music do the talking.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
A lot of challenges have come along my music career, but one constant challenge faced is finding the right people to make a great team and being a part of my life. Staying focus to the craft and making good decisions. Trying to release music at the right time and marketing myself.
Being independent is the hardest but with patience and consistency is the greatest key to success.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
The music I make is more in the nostalgic direction. I bring my fans and listeners to a time when music meant more. I tell stories and situations that bring emotions to music so people can relate and understand. I tried to bring back a raw essence to music, whether it is my hip hop or my R&B. I put my heart and soul into the music I produce to deliver the best quality product a sound can have. I am also from the Caribbean, so I bring a twist and unique tone to my music that makes me different.
Back in the Caribbean especially in my country, “Dominica”, they make bacchanal music, like in a carnival, I always was hooked and drawn to R&B, hip hop, and music of that nature, if anything I could put my own spin and style on the music I make, allowing my listeners to hear the accent, but still compare me to mainstream artist, But with that being said I am from the Caribbean, so I do that afro style music as well, and many fans claim that this is my lane of music and genre where I shine.
I want to say I refurbished or fine-tuned the music of R&B or Hip hop/Rap with my creativity and Storytelling to put a new spin on things in the music industry we know of today.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Covid allowed me to appreciate things more, like people, music and myself. Having to do mothing my be isolated and home, I could really listen to music and feel the emotions and understand an artist and myself when making music. Helped me to be more focused and allow myself to grow in terms planning and being patient with the music. We tend to learn ourselves through isolation and find new things about us.
