Ronnie Coleman Jr. is a multi-instrumental & vocal prodigy from Houston, Texas. who is a master at Percussion, Drums, Piano, Keyboards, organ, and also plays the bass. After completion of high school, he went on to attend Angelina College in, Lufkin, TX, with a full scholarship in Jazz and Symphonic Music. While attending Angelina, he worked as a session musician for various artists and genres as he does still to this day. On November 27, 2008, Ronnie released his debut project “PREFACE” under his independently owned company Rico J Entertainment. In 2008, Ronnie also founded Houston’s #1 Multi-genre, Cross-cultural band, known as “MerlotMusic.” Merlot has been known to blaze the stages as far from California to Houston at various entertainment venues, concerts, churches & events. Ronnie released his sophomore project “Chapter One: No Turning Back” in March of 2013 and newer releases such as “Brighter Day” in August 2016 and the international hit “Bayou City Funk” in 2017. On September 15, 2018, Ronnie made history by recording Houston’s first jazz DVD Concert. He was honored by the mayor, Sylvester Turner, with a proclamations and holiday, “Ronnie Coleman Jr. Day”, saluting his many accomplishments. On top of being one of Houston’s most legit musical powerhouses, he is an award-winning barber and chef. As the proud owner of one of Houston’s most respected barbershops, MERLOT’S BARBERSHOP, Coleman has gotten the 40 UNDER 40 TOP TEN BARBER IN HOUSTON twice and many other credits to his name. He’s been featured on media platforms and publications around the world. He’s done interviews for GMA, CNN, MSNBC, and many others. We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Since moving back to Houston in 2006, Ronnie has definitely had to overcome everything from homelessness to being alone and bouts with depression and suicide. Being a self-employed entrepreneur/ individual is never easy. It certainly becomes harder when you have little to no help. Add to the fact of being a parent with the responsibility to provide for children on top of your personal needs and issues, life can go from 0 to 100 very quickly and in the unfavored direction.

Coleman’s Catering is Ronnie’s newest venture. As a passionate cook and former delicatessens manager, he’s had a longstanding love for culinary arts. He’s been able to turn this love into a viable business that started during the pandemic shutdown of 2020. Since then, he’s catered weddings, office work events, family socials and private chef for high-profile clients.
