Today we’d like to introduce you to Autumn Green.
Hi Autumn, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I had taken a photograp0hy class in high school for 2 years for my junior/senior year and just borrowed the camera from the school to do some of my friends’ senior pictures. That is how my love for photography started. Photography wasn’t my only interest in school, I had also been doing makeup for my color guard team for every game, pep rally, and competition. I was very big into special effects makeup which I showed off every Halloween and started posting them to my Instagram and Facebook accounts. After I graduated in 2017, I went to college and took a photography class as well as cosmetology and graduated in 2019. While in college, I continued to do graduation, birthday, portraits, and artistic photos in my free time. Once the pandemic hit I have seen an ad for a boudoir company looking for a model to get their brand back on track for advertising, I thought “I take a lot of self-portraits and I have Pinterest to show poses, I can do that!” So I messaged them and the next week I was at their in home studio having my first ever boudoir shoot. Being a plus-size woman, I have never really liked how my body looked but these photos really showed me how beautiful I am, thus starting my modeling career. I have been modeling my own makeup and outfits for a little over 2 years now and have really gotten to embrace my curves and showcase my makeup and outfit styling skills. Because I do a lot of artistic makeup and concept designs I have met a lot of people with the same interests. Now that I know what it’s like to be in front of the camera I apply my knowledge to how I work with clients to make them feel more comfortable. I now have widened my skill level to families, couples, portraits, maternity, holiday mini’s, styled shoots, boudoir, and senior photo sessions. The world of Modeling, Photography, and Makeup has helped me so much by making this my calling to do for work and I continue to learn something new every day from it.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
With every career there will be ups and downs, with that being said, no it hasn’t been a smooth road. I have noticed that the peak time for makeup is prom season, family photos is for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, and Christmas. The months in between are really up in the air, as well as not every client will like your editing style or they are searching for the “right price”. It is all about marketing and trying to put your name out there but with there being so many other artists in the game there can be slow days or weeks, which is just how this industry can be.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
How I would describe my work and what’s set me apart from others would be how I am unique and different. I do a lot of out there concepts, such as people could say ‘Halloween type’ which is the best part of the year because so many people get so creative with their looks, I just like to continue it threw out the year. I think it shows on a portfolio that you can branch out to accommodate different clients than what’s considered ‘the norm’. For instance, I do so many creative themed shoots for many models and photographers to come together to create or branch out and try new things. I have done fairies, mermaids, horror characters, superhero/villains, and also the styled shoots of picnics, boho on the beach, downtown walks, and much more.
Since I also am a makeup artist I have fun with it and find inspiration from art and others. My hair color also always changes to colorful hair that’s my own or I wear wigs to match the character I am portraying. A lot of people know me for my creative events and out there looks I come up with.
I am most proud of how far my makeup and photography skills have improved over the years. I have learned from so many how to put together a group photoshoot and learned more about lighting technique that has helped me more in my career.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
For my success, I believe the quality of my skills should be improving and to continue learning to better my art. It is also great to have so many people around you that want to help you in your career and watch you become a great artist in your field.
