Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Lewis.
Ashley, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started in a rough time in my life. I wanted women around me that I could talk to about daily struggles and could call on to help me with different areas of my life. Having a community is so important as it helps you mentally and makes you feel like you aren’t alone and that is what I’m With Her is all about. I prayed about a certain thing that frustrated me and God used me to create an avenue for others like myself to come together.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been the hardest, but it hasn’t been the easiest thing. Some of the challenges that I face is communicating my message across to enough people showing how important my purpose and cause is to everyone today, but it has challenged me to push more. I aim to be more out of the box with grabbing people’s attention and I learn different ways to strategize.
I really push people to challenge their self-love and to focus on seeing their worth. With the way the world is today, it can be hard because many want to be accepted by everyone, but that results in a person not being their true self. Highlighting this in our organization allows me to connect with other women.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I pursued a degree at Sam Houston State University where I graduated in Public Relations and Advertising. During my undergrad, I started doing events as an intern for a bridal company called Bridal Extravaganza and through that, I learned the background work for curating events and the benefits of connecting with people. I currently work for a company called Inspired Weddings and Events Co. as an event planner and coordinator and also as an IT Travel consultant for a healthcare system company.
I am honestly very proud of my love for creativity, art and colors. I can’t go a day without tapping into being creative in some way whether it’s developing my ideas for a potential event or just making balloon garlands. I like to call myself a creative butterfly.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I see my organization holding big events in different major cities like Los Angeles, Atlanta, New York, Dallas and the DMV area. I see us collaborating with a lot of other women’s organizations and pushing more philanthropic work in the community. Everything else that is to come, I would say just stick around to see!
