Exploring Life & Business with Blanka Molnar of Your Sorted Space

Today we’d like to introduce you to Blanka Molnar, Personal Development Coach and Professional Organizer at Your Sorted Space.

Blanka, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?

My story is not linear for sure. Originally I am from Budapest, Hungary, but I lived in California, then five years in London – where I met my husband, who came for a weekend from Houston – and then I moved to Texas about 3.5 years ago.

I was running at the a corporate run in Memorial Park, where I was wearing my corporate t-shirt with our founders’ names, and I wondered why I was wearing somebody’s else name on my t-shirt instead of mine. That’s when I felt that I wanted to work for my own dreams instead of others.

As a Personal Development coach, I find it important to have a coach. The idea of Your Sorted Space came up when I was working with my coach.

It was a long process, but I set up my business, and I left my corporate life behind. I was at the edge of burnout, so starting my own business was a lifesaver.

Your Sorted Space sorts your mental – coaching part – and your physical space – professional organizing part.

Where am I today? I feel mentally and physically better working on my own small woman-owned business.
I have a lot to do. It requires a completely different mindset, but I enjoy it. Never a dull day.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?

HAHA. Was it easy? No. 😉

Since graduation I always worked in a corporate environment, and running your own business requires a different mindset. I wear multiple hats (marketing, finance, administration) and I do not like them all the time, but especially starting out, you do it all.

How you run your life is how you run your business. Lots of parallels. Lots of shifts, flexibility and lots of learning.

You have to know your value so you can offer that value for others. Based on my experience, especially women struggle with that. Sometimes we play small, but what we can offer is wonderful, transformative and MAGIC!

As you know, we’re big fans of Your Sorted Space. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?

Your Sorted Space is about sorting your mental space via personal development coaching and your physical space via professional organizing. It is very transformative and MAGICal. Why do I say that? Because I am biased of course, and I also experienced the shift with my clients. When I say “Professional Organizing” people either do not know what I am talking about, or they mention Marie Kondo or The Home Edit. Both made Professional Organizing more widely known, but they represent a small piece of the cake. Organizing is not always about pretty labels, baskets and/or becoming a minimalist. It is wayyy more than that. And that’s the beauty I love about it. It’s the change – no matter how small or big – and the transformation.

I had a client who needed help from an organizer after a pretty rough six months of her life, and she needed to change. Organizing her bedroom and bathroom was the first step towards that change. At the beginning of the session, she was on her phone not really paying attention to what I was doing. BUT at the end of the session, she was sitting with me on the floor of her bathroom sorting her items, and she was SMILING. She said she felt lighter and more hopeful. These are the moments why I love coaching and organizing.

I am proud that I made the leap and left my corporate life behind. I am proud that I created a brand that’s an extension of who I am. It’s like a puzzle. All the puzzle pieces of my journey (my moves, living on different continents, changing jobs) are shaping my business as well and how I can assist my clients.

I constantly develop myself because that influences my business too. I am a member of NAPO (National Association of Productivity and Organizing Professionals), and I am just leaving the Professional Development Director role at the NAPO Houston Chapter after volunteering for a term.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?

So many lessons learned. I would like to answer with a quote from Steve jobs: “You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something — your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. ” This is how I feel about the last eleven years of my life. ( I left Hungary eleven years ago.) So many lessons learned, and how many more waiting?

One of the most important lessons I am currently learning is setting boundaries which I feel is more difficult running Your Sorted Space. The line between my personal and business life is very fluid. I have burnt myself couple times, so now I am more careful with focusing my energy and resources. Always something to learn, and I appreciate every lesson I get.
