Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Twitty.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
During my elementary years, I realized my fascination with the three branches of government and knew I would one day serve in an official capacity. Obviously, I did not know exactly what the journey would look like early on. As you can see, I was determined to figure it out. It also helps that my family instilled the importance of faith, education, and service.
In addition to my love for the government, I took an interest in fashion. My family affectionately called me Vanna and Miss Priss growing up because of my slender frame and sophisticated style. Today, colleagues and case parties also compliment my style. I love that I can bring fashion to the courtroom!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Dealing with rejection was probably the hardest to overcome. The wait seemed like a lifetime of rejection letters, pointless interviews, and unreturned phone calls. Thankfully, most of my free time was spent serving teens in schools and local non-profits. Encouraging students to make decisions that align with their goals made me realize that a judgeship was not far reach, as I was already following that advice. A once discouraged Jasmine discovered that a judgeship was a matter of time.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Most notably known as America’s youngest appointed judge and Forbes Trailblazer, I currently preside in Travelers Rest, SC. I oversee the Court’s daily operations as the city’s lead judicial officer. Certainly proud of that accomplishment and the recent launch of Ordinarily Jas! I am determined to make an impact in the court and fashion industry.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Exposure is key! My best advice is to shadow a person who is where you want to be and ask questions about their journey. You may or may not realize that is the path for you.
