Rising Stars: Meet Alexis Walker

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis Walker.

Hi Alexis, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Performing has always been a big passion of mine since I was very young, I grew up singing in church mainly, but I was always the kid that was never afraid to jump out and test the waters because what do they always say, “the sky is the limit” and I wholeheartedly agree with that quote. Being African American, as well as female, can be so hard already, especially in such a competitive industry like entertainment but I’ve done it with effort because it’s my heart and soul and God created me to shine my light and be a role model/inspiration for future generations after me. I believe I’ve separated myself from other artists because, through my music, I’ve changed the perspective of how it should be heard. I know I am still young and growing as an artist but I’ve always had this big dream of wanting my generation to appreciate the beauty of eclectic sounds. I truly started taking my craft more seriously just last year and my main focus now has been diving deeper into my lyrics and making them hit home, not only for my age range but for everyone who just loves some soulful music.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There have definitely been some trials and errors in my journey. On my 17th birthday, I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. Getting this news as a thriving teenager at first, made me feel like I took five steps back in life because I knew my lifestyle would totally change from that day on. There was so much new information to be learned and mentally, I wasn’t prepared for what was to come. Not even a couple of months after my diagnosis, I was rushed to the ICU, and when I arrived the doctors told my family I was in a diabetic ketoacidosis state. When they eventually revived me back to health, I was told that I was blessed to be alive because my condition was so severe that I would’ve either had brain damage or heart problems after the fact. Nonetheless, this experience was the most traumatic event that I’ve ever gone through but it taught me to never neglect the way I am feeling physically and to speak out and get support when I need it. Altogether, my disease doesn’t define me or stop me from living up to my true potential every time I get another chance to wake up and start a new day. I want people to know that I am not a statistic and I am just as hard-working as them, maybe even more dedicated to my craft and creating beautiful works of art as I learn and better myself. Knowing what I deal with on a day to day motivates me even MORE than other people may know because our time is limited here on this earth, so I definitely take advantage of every opportunity that I am granted whether it’s big or small, I appreciate every moment and continue to live out my dreams to the fullest because God made me destined to do so and I am forever grateful.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am an R&B singer/songwriter as well as a content creator, creative director, model, and poet. I specialize in creating experimental music and editorial modeling work as well as filmmaking. As long as I’ve been living, I’ve been told that my voice is a healing component and that just motivates me, even more, to keep grinding and showing people who I am as a young artist just doing what she loves to do every day. I am extremely proud of myself for never giving up with as much as I’ve been through in a short amount of time because if others were in my position, they probably would’ve been defeated right away. I just want to be known for my talents and skills in a positive way that can make a great impact on individuals from all walks of life. I strive to be the best in everything I do and work my hardest to achieve my dreams of being on top!

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
At this stage in my career, I’m extremely open to working with seasoned talent as well as new talent just like me, so we can collaborate and support each other’s craft. I’m hungry for more ideas and interested in seeking new ways to find my true voice and experience my sound and style to manifest to my audiences. If you are interested in working with me, please feel free to check out my social media or contact me about inquiries through email! You can also support me by tuning into my Linktree where you can find all of my music and creative content platforms!
