Today we’d like to introduce you to Darrel Schuster.
Darrel, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Snuggles and hugs pet care started over 10yr ago when my wife could not find anyone dependable to watch our dogs the way we would. She set out to change the standard of pet care providing peace of mind and comfort not just creating a business. The quality of care and attention each pet receives is our primary focus. We have both always had a love of dogs from our youth, I have had a special connection with dogs understanding their behaviors and language. We wanted to change the way people viewed doggy daycare and boarding so we opened Snuggles and hugs Active dog camp and Luxury boarding.
Once again the focus is on the dog and the attention each one receives, our facility reflects this standard only taking in 15 dogs per day and only boarding 8 at any given time. Each guest here receives one on one play and attention along with group play. We are growing at a steady rate also enjoying watching people’s perspective change when it comes to pet care. We are excited about the future of Snuggles and hugs, you just might see one near you in the years to come.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The main challenge is changing people’s view of camp and boarding. Most people are used to a large facility with upwards of 60-100 dogs. All in a group with little or no activity, most do not realize that their dog really is not active at that time and more than likely it’s overwhelmed. When you talk about boarding it’s the same thing dog goes in a cage along with 50+ others and you have to pay for more time out. The truth is your dog is just a number! But that’s all that has been presented until now. People want their dogs to be treated the way they would treat them and give the attention that they would give. One they understand our program it’s a no-brainer.

We take the time to find out what makes your dog happy then we fill that need, We have special one on one programs, group play, puzzles and games all for the enjoyment of your dog. We are known for the one on one attention we give each dog. We are proud to provide the type of care that gives you peace of mind and keeps your dog wanting to come back when your dogs think I’m their owner it means we are doing it right. What sets us apart from others is the ability to provide the one with one care and attention, our size is the key factor, we are small for that reason alone. Big companies can’t do it too many dogs and not enough manpower, our group sessions can also include toys because we know the dogs we are dealing with and how they react while in a group.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Having a dream and seeing it come to forwishen, and the joy on all of our customers faces when they tell us how much we have helped not only their dog but the whole family!
