Today we’d like to introduce you to Mariana Castro.
Hi Mariana, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started in my freshman year of high school. I had just turned 15 & my parents would always tell me that once I turned 15, I could start wearing makeup. I remember asking my mom to go inside Sephora with me. She bought me my first eyeshadow palette & that’s how everything began. I got into it cause I wanted to learn for myself. I’ve always been into beauty so that was a must. Once I started wearing a full face, I would get stopped in the hallways by teachers asking me what foundation was I wearing & I had this friend in gym who would always compliment me & she was in a higher grade level so she told me one day that if I could do her makeup for Prom. Since I’ve never done makeup on someone else, at first, I was a little hesitant but she convinced me to practice on her one day after school. I remember it didn’t came out the way I wanted it to, I felt like something was off & I started practicing more & more on my little cousins who have always supported me & always been my number one fans & eventually, I made up my mind that it was something I wanted to do & I chose not to go to college which was something hard being the first daughter/ girl in the family to be born in the United States, my parents weren’t happy at first but thankfully, they always been supportive & I thank them for that cause I wouldn’t be where I am without their support. I stayed consistent but I didn’t have much clientele. I had 2 jobs before landing a job at MAC. One of my dreams came true. The whole experience & the people I met I will always cherish forever, unfortunately, I didn’t work there the time I was planning to due to covid but it was a blessing in disguise because out of nowhere, I started getting booked & noticed. I made it official on May 19, 2021 & ever since, I’ve been doing this full time and I’ve accomplished so many things & I’m so grateful for anyone who supports me & books me or recommends me I get to do what I love every day.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been especially when you only have a passion & a dream you have to set goals & stay focused I’ve been doing this for about 7 years & the last 2 years have been the most successful So far still not where I want to be but I have goals I want to achieve and can’t wait to see what the future has in stores for me.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a Houston professional makeup artist I specialize in everything from bridal to makeup shoots. I would say I’m known for the colorful dramatic looks, my proudest moments are definitely when I give my clients the mirror and they gasp and say they love it & can’t stop smiling or looking at themselves I love that feeling of making someone happy and having the ability to make them feel confident and beautiful I think what sets me apart from others is my ability to keep up with the makeup trends I love a good colorful dramatic look but I also love my soft glams I’m pretty versatile I’m always down to try new things.
What would you say has been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Don’t listen to what people have to say about what you are doing career-wise or just, in general, do what makes you happy and don’t give up.
