Hi Deniz, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I am Deniz Yildirim. I was born and raised in Turkey. I have a bachelor’s degree as an aircraft maintenance engineer. The first time I came to use in 2014 was with a cultural exchange program when I was studying at a university. But I settled in use in 2020. I want to do something different in my life and for that, I quit my profession.
And began to do business. Firstly I opened a small business with a small budget as a cart business at a mall. It was a risk because I quit my profession and I had small savings so I had to invest all of them in this business. So it was my first step in my business life. I have been growing up my business in a time. It was the hard to make a decision. I am also too much thankful for my friends because they support me a lot. For everyone; if you have great people around you, there is no impossible in your life. People are so important around you. If you have anyone to make you down keep stay from him. Money, I can earn a lot today or I can be moneyless. The main point is “never give up”. And don’t act like all things only happen to you. So it was my first step in my business life. I have been growing up my business at a time. Get lessons from your past but not stuck in your past.
Today, we do business in Chicago, Miami, and Houston.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It wasn’t a smooth road. First days of Selfieland we worked a lot on advertising. I can’t forget the first days. Because this concept is first for people. they are not familiar with this concept. We explain to people as much as we can. But today they are going good and we have 3 stores in Miami, Chicago and Houston.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
The idea of the business came from the street in Miami. I decided to open this concept when I saw people take pictures of graphite in Miami and share them on their social media. Then I was thinking open a store with this concept. We have. 23 different concepts in separate rooms. Our customers can have pictures with all of them by their own phone or camera. We have professional ring light and remote for taking selfies. After they access the store, they will have 1.30 hours time limit. they can also record videos and they can change their outfit in our fitting rooms. we have also party area for our customer’s special events. we provide chairs tables fridge, microwave, and area. so they can bring food and drinks (non-alcohol) they decorate the area with their own decoration stuff and they can play their own music.
