Today we’d like to introduce you to Dominique Mickles.
Hi Dominique, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Life has a way of coming at you and coming at you fast. As so many of us have had to deal with the unexpected life-changing pandemic that was “thrown Upon us” it was also the battery that I needed in my back. I watched millions of people Lose their jobs including my husband to no fault of their own. It was then that I truly have seen how EASY it was for one’s Livelihood to be taken away. As a housewife and mother to 3 boys, that reality became really scary. So while things around me were seemingly falling apart all I could think was “What Are We Going To Do Now? One of the ways I clear my mind is by giving myself A “Spa Day” it’s how I clear my mind & able to refocus on what’s important to me. I remembered a while back I went to Houston’s workforce trying to find a regular 9-5 & I sat down with one of the people who ate there to help you. The went through the basics with me asking about skills/ background you know the resume which I gave him. But he asked me something that stayed with me for all these years. He asked me “Dominique what do you actually like to do? what is your passion”? And for me, that was the easiest question in the World…CREATE. My motto is “Put the Tools In Front Of Me & Watch Me Work”. From that, SleepyMuch was in the works.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Has it been a smooth ride? Lol. No, but what is though? I don’t expect life to be easy because it never has been. BUT what’s life with No obstacles Right? I would say what makes this so hard honestly is just being seen. As a small company it’s hard to get noticed If you don’t have a great promotion or a team behind you, it can really become overwhelming.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a creative soul if I have to put a label on it lol. And with my brand allows me to do just that. With SleepyMuch I’m not just coming with Skincare Products O No I’m hitting them with a pinch of Art too. When I first started SleepyMuch I wanted to make a brand that caters to relaxation and fine Art. Products that not only benefit so many on the outside but also products that make you feel good within. Natural products are made with Natural Ingredients that everyone can understand and printed on labels. NOW What I’m Known for is my Art or Creative Thinking. I can draw, paint, and build/construct I don’t like to box myself in. Look One day I hope to make enough money to buy my family a home just so I could build my kids a treehouse in our backyard lol. I have been blessed with hands that sometimes make pretty cool things. And what I feel sets me apart from others is I’ve been able to bring both those things together Skincare & Art.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Pretty much everything lol starting with my thought process. I am A very much to myself type of person so no one knows what to expect until it happens to me. It will always be a surprise. But I do get some of my best ideas while taking a bath lol.
